Went to the Sam Adams Brewery yesterday. Pretty good tour considering the relatively small size of that brewery. They let you chew on some barley and play around with some hops, then they give you about a pint or more of free beer to taste and a little tasting glass. Had the Boston Lager, which was... you know, fine. The Noble Pils which was a little lighter, and the Brick Red which was probably the best of all of them. Sam Adams has a tendency to taste kind of yeasty to me. It was fun though, I got the New World Tripel to have at home. It was only $10 at the brewery.
We also went to the pub that they recommended at the tour for lunch and gave us one of those Sam Adams laser cut fluted pint glasses for free.
Damn, that was something I didn't think to do when I went to Boston!
Mexicans and Mediterraneans have lived long, healthy lives off bean and pasta based dishes. Which, yeah I guess there's a lot of cheese in that, but I have a physical coming up and I think I’ll stick to that before I go trying any kind of new fandangled science food.
If you're actively incorporating other forms of protein (beans, nuts) it's not so much of a problem. The pasta or rice actually makes it a complete protein. I've just seen too many people just take meat out of whatever cheesy thing they had and then eat twice as much of it because they're not getting as much protein.
Also: They've been making tofu for thousands of years.
Tofu, by itself in blocks, I don't have a problem with. It's the veggie burgers and countless other processed shit, that's shaped and packaged like meat. "Oh I don't want to hurt the little chicky, but that piece of tofu that looks like his thigh looks mighty tasty!" Good gravy.
Hey, works for a barbecue. All kinds'a different folks running around these days.
That reminds me,
Josh, Hub, etc: Any good breweries to tour in the Baltimore/Annapolis/DC area? I've always wanted to go to one. Maybe Flying Dog?
