I wonder how many ERs have dislodged corks from bruised upper intestines?
My sister got me a sampler pack from Hook and Ladder for Christmas. We opened it up a few weeks ago but I forgot to report on it.

It was these three beers plus the Pipe & Drum Irish Ale. The Golden Ale was pretty solid but nothing I haven't had before. The Lighter kind of tasted like Coors Light so I was not impressed. The Brown was rich, lots of flavor. Almost like a New Castle but darker. I don't remember what the Pipe & Drum was like because I was already pretty drunk when we opened those ones. I remember it was like a Smithwicks but I could be way off.
It's good though. I like the (2) more.
Maredsous Dubbel:

Split this with my parents over the weekend. This was a surprise. Took me about half a glass to adjust to the violent alcohol punch this one packs upfront. Surprising because the abv is only 8%. Thick, creamy head... like a root beer float almost. Subtle burnt chocolate flavour. It is not as balanced/tasty/delicious as the Allagash Dubbel, which remains my favourite Belgian, or Belgian style beer. I probably won't get this one again, but it was an alright experiment.
Stone's Sublimely Self Righteous Ale:

Pours a deep, deep brown. Light can not penetrate. Head quickly fades to a thin film. Lacing all the way down the glass. Tastes like a solid Imperial IPA that somebody spilled some brown dye into. Pretty damn good, very good even, but it's not going to unseat 90min as my favourite IPA.
Is this one of the things that mellows with age? I grabbed a North Coast Old Stock Ale last night and I quite enjoyed it except for the fact that most of the intricacies of the flavor were hidden behind the alchohol on the nose. I later found out that it's intended to be aged but as I've never tried that I didn't know if that was just part of the beer.
Havin' one of these myself right now:

Tried Raison D'Etre. I thought it was ok. Not bad, but not great either. I'm in no hurry to try it again.
