Typically I used to feel that scotch was superior, but Pappy stood up to the great scotches I've had.
It kind of triggered a trip down the bourbon hole. On my shopping trip today I wanted to fill in some classics so I grabbed Buffalo Trace and W.L. Weller 12yo. They were both highly rated value buys ($20 and $25 respectively). I tried the W.L. Weller and it's pretty good, and great at the price. In my research I also found a lot about William Larue Weller, a special edition from the Antiques collection. It was rated the #1 bourbon of 2011 and #3 whiskey overall by the whiskey bible, so I got that one as well and packed it away for later. Also got my name on a list for a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle which is shipping in Nov, so it's almost here. If anyone sees a bottle they should grab it. It's one of the best bourbons out there, but also the biggest name so it's extremely hard to get. They only ship twice a year and it's coming within the next few weeks so keep your eyes open.
