Send me a bottle?
Sure.
Also, probably headed down to DFH again in a week or two if anyone needs anything.
Feb is when I can have beers again. How convenient.
Yeah but you're negative on Facebook and unfriend people so don't hold your breath.
Everything
So, the local radio station is touting Bell's Hopslam. Anyone heard of it? Is it any good?
Really citrus-y (grapefruit) Double IPA. It's been a while, but I think there was some honey in there as well. Seriously hoppy, but that's kinda implied by the name. I don't drink IPAs very often, but I thought it was excellent.
Edit: I recall getting fairly smashed after several of these, so I want to say the ABV is higher than normal.
Just had two founders breakfast stouts. Feels good.
Word. 10% abv will do that. I love IPAs, so I'm going to try and find some of this stuff.
Also, if no one has tried it, the Long Trail Belgian White is quite refreshing. It's unfiltered, so a glass is recommended, but you can get away with giving the bottle a few twists upside down to mix everything and drink from the bottle.
I'll be at the DFH Pub tonight - hopefully they have Noble Rot on tap.
Razor got me craving the Chicory Stout, so I grabbed a 4-pack while I was out running around. I also grabbed one of these:

I don't have a lot of experience with Czech beers, but the few I've had have been exceptional. I'll post impressions later.
I just ad one of the best stouts you'll ever have. Copper Kettle Black Stout; a bit of cinnamon with a spicy flavor and smell, with a chocolately and dark taste. Seriously, this is my new favorite stout, and it's less than a mile from me. Everythng Koppper Cettle had was memorable and good; their IPA, their Dortmunder; I don't think I've seen a brewery with such a collection of beers. Usually ti feels like there is one or two beers that they build around, every beeer at this place was memorable; and I'd been there for the last 5 hours. I wish some of you fuckers woudl come out to Denver so we could go get good beer.
I just woke up, DRUNKER THAN I WAS. Oh god.
Sleep longer, noob.
I can't name many times where I've been this drunk because of a lunch engagement. It would be awesome if it didn't fuck over my entire day. Good times, at one point in conversation we mention Leopold Brother's Gin, Rye Scotch Whisky, and Vodka. Find out the place about 2 minutes south has all of these, and this guy Andre goes and gets each bottle and we take small shots to test this shit out in the parking lot. Good times.
Had my first Fireball Whiskey shot on Saturday. WOW.
Drinking the last pour from my bottle of Lagavulin 16. My favorite scotch. I feel like the bottle deserves a viking's funeral. I want to put it in a little boat, set it aflame, and push it off into the ocean. It deserves so much more than the recycle bin.
I've been on a Hard Cider kick lately.
Woodchuck Hard Cider Crisp, Amber, and now Pear. I also drank a few days ago Crispin Landsdowne. That was the business...If Icarus has anymore Cider recommendations I would be willing to listen.
How about a 2012 thread? This shit is 2 years old
Ciders are too sweet. I think that's why you see many women and gays drink them.
Heading over to the 21st Amendment brewpub tonight, nice nice.
Drier than your mother?
K Cider rocks your sorry can.
I'd rather have a bottle of veuve cliquot.
21st amendment is great. Have an Allies for me! Not that watermelon garbage!
Fresh Hop Mirror Pond pale ale from Deschutes.
Sweet lord I wish everything could be fresh hop'd.
Bell's Hopslam - I know this is supposed to be The Big Thing right now, but for my money 2 Hearted is better.
A buddy of mine just asked if I wanted to go with him this weekend to tour 3floyds. Fucking amped. Might have to crack open the bottle of Behemoth on occasion.
Just cracked mine over Christmas. EPIC.
Well, we cracked open the Behemoth before the tour and I have to say, EPIC is the perfect description.
Incredibly experience overall.
Appetizer:
smoked octopus black pepper oyster sauce, mushrooms, butterball potatoes, pickled garlic.
Meal:
slow roasted lamb bucatini piquillo pepper, parmesan reggiano, black pepper.
3 floyds cassoulet braised pork, confit duck leg, duck sausage, parsley bread crumbs.
Brought home a case of Zombie dust and Ragnorok (brewed in collaboration with a local band). Had their Cimmerian Sabertooth Berzerker, and Big Black Van (not too dark, but a nice chocolate flavored IPA).

Got six 22's of Bourbon County Stout for the store on Friday. Contemplating trying one. Crazy hard to get this stuff and my cost was nearly $10/bottle. Ebay would probably be the smart thing to do... I'm not that smart. ;)
I have 3 bottles aging :-)
Goddamn fucking Crispin cider was bought out by MillerCoors.
I bought a noble rot and left it at my dad's without drinking it. Good as gone :-(
At least you could find one.
I know where there are more....
In before jokes?
I have about 20 of them (Noble Rot's). Truth - it was better on tap @ the BrewPub than out of the bottle. By a good margin.
Do you carry bourbon Haoh? Ever get any of the limited release stuff? Any chance you have a PHC 2010 wheater?
Bourbon County? It's hard to get, but I ended up with a case of the 12oz. and 6x the 22oz. Coffee Stouts. Unfamiliar with PHC 2010.
I don't mean beer, actual bourbon whiskey
Ah, nah. In NY, beer and liquor are separate licenses and can't be held simultaneously by the same person.
The same place nearby that makes the Mexican Chocolate Stout I fell in love with, had a Breakfast Stout for a short period of time (20 kegs of it, they're finishing off the last one today from two weeks ago) which was really good if you like oatmeal based stouts!
I'm sad because their American IPA is going to be gone once they do their homebrewers competition, it's got such a good fruity taste to go with the bitterness. But while I'm here, I want to try another Sour Beer! Recommendations!
Cantilion Kreik. I may be spelling this wrong. If you have balls of steel try a geueze. I may be spelling that wrong as well.
Steel Balls wish they were my balls.
Hanssens Experimental Raspberry - You don't have the juice.
Just bought and tried Jack Daniels Honey Whiskey. Its real sweet; it has almost too much sweetness. YET, this has possibilities in cooking and baking. I can see myself making cupcakes using the JD Honey for the Buttercream icing, stuffed with a honey/walnut jam, and a vanilla sponge cake.
Oh man, or a JD Honey glaze on sage pork chops w/pomegranate&blueberry chutney. A side of Butternut squash risotto and broccoli rabe.
If only there was a guy who owned a liquor store that posted in this thread.
Semi-related. Holy fuck, can I just buy an 8oz snifter without dropping seventy fucking dollars? Can any of you point me in more reasonable direction?
I only need 3. Anyone from MD want a snifter or twenty?

Also: I'm sending out your beer package this week hopefully. I'm trying to obtain a bottle of this black IPA, dude at the brewery said their bottling operation should be going by now.
Also, addendum: DUDE BRO WHERE IS MY BEER FROG.
How to celebrate Presidents' Day:

It's old Stitzel Weller stock just like Pappy, and it's god damn amazing
Using citric acid / lactic acid to sour a beer you bought.
Discuss.
For beer, I personally do not like to mess with it. I like to have it the way the brewer intended. Personally.
Like I said on your FB page, fucking with someone else's beer is akin to your servers re-seasoning the food you cooked (and seasoned so the diners would experience the food the way you intended) on the way to the table. Think of the brewer as a chef, and think how blown you would be if someone fucked with your vision.
If you want sour beers, ask a local brewery to do a special sour firkin for you. Just stop fucking with other people's creations.
imo and all.
Speaking of Facebook. Asking a question on there, and then deleting responses you don't like makes you a faggot.
I think that's cool as a jumping off point. Be sure to try the beer and understand the beer before altering it.
Where does this leave something like a Hoprocket / Randall? Is that heresy?
If the end result is tasty, why do we consider Original Beer sacred?
Our de cuisine and I 'soured' a Nora 750 we were splitting after service last night and it was really good. Should we feel bad about enjoying it? Is this a philosophical debate about something that doesn't deserve it?
What it is is what i said it is. Would you like your servers fucking with your food without asking you first?
And why ask a question if you delete the answers you don't like?
This argument is invalid. We're not fucking with the beer without the customer's consent, or before they've tasted it. We're not presenting it to them as The Original Product.
How would the Ramones feel about you playing their songs without their consent?
I think "Beer Sanctity" is being precious and uptight.
If the diner requests it, and it's made clear, I don't see any problem with the restaurant doing this. It's no different than ordering a mixed drink, really.Yeah, I have to agree. I don't think I'd want my beer tampered with personally, but I can't see any principled objection to it as an option.
I've the solution. Write/call the makers of the beers you're giving the option to sour and see if they're cool with it. That's all that matters. My opinion is just an opinion.
This is a bad analogy. They were a major label band, and they're pretty much all dead. I have no problem not securing performance rights from their label before playing their music.
Josh, how about you answer the damn text I sent you like an hour ago.
I just mean from an "art" analogy. You're altering their art.
Are we really equating beer + additives to a car bomb?
Oh, one of those things that college kids drink to get wasted.
Well yeah, that's pretty stupid too.
It's all just ingredients to me.
Should I not use beer in stew?
What about the gelled beer on our cheese plate?
Or really any mixed drink, unless only beer is precious.
I mean I agree I like my beer (and my liquor) straight because I want to enjoy it for what it is, but this just seems like too common a practice to really single this out.
Some drinks are made for mixing. Others are not. You ever see someone mix Gold Label with Coke? I have. It took all my strength not to slap that shit out of his hand.
Something as diverse as beer is not for mixing?
Or just some kinds?
You know what's really good? White port and sweet tea.
I've had beer cocktails and I've enjoyed them for what they were. I just rather the beer as it was intended. If I wanted a mix drink I'll go with whiskey soda.
I'm not the one arguing that stance.
You guys know nugget nectar is out right? My house is on case #2 already.
Nugget is one of the best beers ever. Brought home my first six pack a few days ago.
Split up a 2010 Yule Tide (heavy seas) at band practice last night.
So good.
Plastic cups...
Yule Tide is pretty good, too.
Spent almost the whole day today brewing beer (with a lot of help). I got to help make the must on the pro equipment at a local brewery at a homebrew club event. I took home 5 gallons of must, then made some roasted malt tea I'm using to turn it into a stout. The final product will be a pistachio milk stout. I'm tired now.
Had a Saison Darkly last night I've had stashed away for a while.
Bangin.
Fag
Tried Southern Tier Backburner the other night. It was putrid. Had to force the rest of the bottle down. Bad batch maybe?
Or poorly stored / shipped. I've seen too many beer stores that stock their shit right in the sun. Unacceptable.
You'd think they would know better.
My brew went crazy overnight and blew up. There was beer on the ceiling and I found the lid on the other side of the room. It's been foaming over all day so I stuck it in the bathtub. Pic!
Rad! You could use some plastic/rubber hosing and a jug of water to avoid this in the future ;-)
Ended up riding my bike to Dry Dock's brewery, a good brewery in Denver I expect you'll see some of their shit nationally within the next couple of years.
They had a nice sour beer that was apparently a complete accident with their barrels trying to make an amber ale. It was very smooth, pretty easy to drink.
It just came out - I doubt storage was an issue. More likely, it's the nature of the style (barleywine) that's much, much better to let sit for a couple of years. Barleywines are difficult to pull off to begin with, much harder if you're drinking it without letting it age.
