If you usually take whiskey with ice try it neat. Once you get used to it you will never water it down.
I've been making some Manhattans too. My recipe is 2oz rye or bourbon (the Ritt is kick ass for this), 1/2 oz sweet vermouth (Antica Formula Carpano Vermouth, don't use the cheapest Rossi shit), 1/2oz brandy, 2 dashes angostura bitters, and a luxardo cherry (they are black as night, all other cherries bow down). combine with 3 ice cubes in a shaker, stir don't shake, strain into a glass and add the cherry.
