watched this tonight. It was really good. Straight action for 2 hours. Like all the good parts I remembered from 80s action movies and cartoons.
I really liked the strong female characters. I also liked that I was never treated like I was stupid. No time was wasted on explaining things. They filmed it and trusted that I was smart enough to figure things out on my own.
Its a nice change
This was significantly better than Avengers 2. Will probably be my movie of the year. I don't think I've watch a movie with Tom Hardy that I didn't like.
This was amazing.
This movie was a delight, I loved it. Was even better the second time. Presents a very lived in world, never insults its audience, and absolutely puts in the work. Extreme intensity without being nasty, fantastical without being cliche. Furiosa earned her toughness and scrappiness on screen, and Theron did a great job. Tough-girl parts almost always elicit the rolling of eyes, not in concept, but always in execution, but here I was on board for her very practical struggles.
I also really like the inferred story given Miller's age and filmography. Coming back and kicking all these anemic, flaccid modern-day action films right in the throat.
Honestly, this was the most taken I've been with a modern action film since The Raid. There were parts where I was almost breathless. Leave it to Miller, in his 70's, to kick the lame movies Hollywood has been attempting to pass off as "action" square up the ass. I guess Happy Feet didn't soften him up too much, lol.
And for once, I agree with everything FurbyFox says. Theron was great, and presented a tough woman in a very realistic way as opposed to the usual rail-thin waif manhandling a guy who outweighs her by 100 pounds that most films push. Tom Hardy was a great Max as well.

Yes. the Doof Warrior astride his Doof Wagon with his army of taiko drummers in teh back were a delight. every time he was on screen i had a smile like "wtf. this is great". And im pretty sure i didn't blink the entirety of the first chase up until the Vengefull Finger of god tornado they drove through. like jesus i really want to watch this again. every time i think about it.Quote:

I also don't get all the bitching about how the film is "overally feminist" or whatever. The Mad Max movies have always had strong female characters in them. Hell, it stands to reason that anyone able to survive in a post-apocalyptic wasteland would have to be strong, male or female.
I saw it a second time on Friday night and it was just as good the second go round.
