Deadly Premonition

If you're into old school Silent Hill (or Twin Peaks), there is no way you shouldn't be interested in this game. The trailer below will probably sell you if youre one of those people. I mean what else came out even remotely close to this the past few years? Its got a low print run, so if youre into shit like this go get it. Everyone in this thread whos actually played it, likes it - so it aint all that bad:

Watch the trailer on the official site too. It shows more of the Twin Peaks stuff than the above trailer. I cant find that one on youtube.

This might be the funniest game ever made. Youre driving around and then the main character has a long conversation (with himself) about how Tremors 1 with Kevin Bacon was a masterpiece. Totally random. I love it.

I like the references to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and American Werewolf in London. The game's combat is servicable. The graphics are horrible, but thats not really the point. I like it so far. Waaaay better that Silent Hill: Homecoming. I got the last copy at Gamestop, since I couldn't find it anywhere else.

There's a Shenmue vibe as well at some parts when you have to find ways to kill time and people have schedules. Some people won't like that but I do. I was disappointed when I did a side mission to upgrade my car, though. It increased the acceleration a bit but since you automatically max your speed at the speed limit, it didn't feel much different.

I just finished this game last night, and honestly, this is the most enjoyable gaming experience this year for me. There are absolutely flaws, but the game's idiosyncrasies outweigh them, making the roughness nearly irrelevant. The game does rip off Twin Peaks, but manages to do so well; Swery, the game's creator, is obviously mimicking what he admires. Plus, the game took me about 13 hours to beat, which is a bargain considering its budget price point.

Think: Rough Resident Evil 4 + Shenmue + Twin Peaks + Awesome Music (in the "so bad it's good sense," with the exception of the title screen music, which I love.)

If you are even vaguely into any of the above, I recommend this highly.

P.S. Emily looks exactly like Naomi Watts.

For me, I wouldn't rank it as high as Mass Effect 2 or Bayonetta but it's the most pleasant surprise of the year so far, flawed but charming. It took me over 14.5 hours to beat although I think part of that was because for most of the game I was an idiot and didn't realize that the d-pad switches weapons so I was wasting time going into the item selection screen.
