Just Cause 2

I searched and couldn't see a topic, so I give you one.

The demo for this hit the PS3 and 360 today. PC too.

If you like sandbox games at all go grab it. 30 minutes to cause as much damage as you can before the demo ends...and then you get to do it all over again. Things like launching oxygen tanks like big old firecrackers, or riding said oxygen tanks into the air to jump off and parachute away just before it explodes, various other crazy shit.

The actual game comes out near the end of March, and I for one cannot wait.

Crap, forgot this came out today! Downloading now, I've been looking forward to this for a while.

Didn't like it at all, honestly. Something about the game feels too stiff and the aiming is auto nonsense. Blowing up shit wasn't as good as it is in Saboteur. I'll pass this and wait for Crackdown 2.

The demo's cool, but I don't know if it's a game I'd ever play through.

I played the demo about 10 times yesterday. Shit is amazing.

The controls certainly take a little getting used to, but once you get over the learning curve you can do some rad, rad stuff, especially with the tethering. I tethered a dude to a car, got in and and dragged him to death. Tethered a dude shooting at me while on top of his car onto another passing car, jerking him out violently. Tethered a dude to an upright gas tank, shot it and sent him up like a bottle rocket.

The space between settlements is still disappointingly sparse like the first game, but grapple-clawing the ground ahead while floating with the parachute allows you to keep a pretty fast pace in getting back to civilization if you accidentally find yourself way off course. It's not nearly as big a deal as it was in the first, where you had to walk forever if you found yourself away from a main thoroughfare.

Generous auto-aiming is fine for the game. There are enemies everywhere and you are propelling them into the air and shit, requiring fine precision aiming would be kinda frustrating and only serve as an impediment to the broad unfettered havoc you should rightly be wreaking.

The first one has ADD (you drive a car, get off and run a few step, turn around and the car is gone) but I thought it was mindless fun. Flying a helicopter over the island has an amazing feel. I hope they fixed the AI in the 2nd.

Played it some more and found you can precise aim by clicking in the right stick. Moving around is pretty great, but it's too sparse out there and I don't like how the enemies fight. It's like a retard swarm the way they huddle together.

Looks and feels so much better than the first one. AI is still dumb as a rock tho.

It's pretty amazing how much better it looks than the first. Gotta mess around some more to really get the hang of the grappling hook. It's like a new Bionic Commando.

I've played the demo four times so far and think I'll put it up for now. At the moment I'm really looking forward to the full game, and that's good enough for now.

I enjoyed the demo but it seems like it'll be just as unfocused and repetitive as the first game. It's pretty, and it's fun just screwing around, but I don't know if that warrants a purchase. I'm definitely looking forward to Crackdown 2 a bit more than this one

Walmart's going to be selling this for 40 bucks up here in Canada when it launches on the 23rd, just like they did with Arkham Asylum last year. Which means all the other stores are going to have to price match and claim it was their idea the whole time, just like last year with Arkham.

The demo is a lot of fun. It does seem a bit sparse, but I noticed in the trailers there are other environments (e.g., at least one city). I actually did the faction mission in the demo and it was surprisingly involved. A nice combination of Mercenaries and Crackdown.

With the patches for the PC demo, I've been messing around with all the weapons and BOLO SANTOSI ropes (rope together as many things as you want). Been a lot of stupid fun, and yeah, the actual mission in the demo is pretty solid for a sandbox game. Might get this.

I was already planning on getting it, but now it's day one.

Spent the last 3 hours just fucking around and not doing a single mission. Way better than I thought. But I got a feeling it will get stale half way through the game. Though I climbed did enjoy teathering chasing enemy vehicles to the ground to make then do some awesome flips. Human pinatas are bitchin too.

I'm surprised at the lack of postings for this. I picked it up yesterday - - Kmart was selling it for $45, so I price matched at Best Buy along with a $30 rewards card - - $19 and change total. Regardless, this is a very good sandbox game. After feeling a bit bored of the demo terrain, it was nice to see the full game drop you immediately into new, huge, and gorgeous environments. I only got to mess around for an hour or so, but this will definitely keep me entertained for quite a while. Also, for the PC elitists, I understand that the PC rev is excellent.

I plan to get this when I find it cheap enough. I didn't know that Kmart had it for $45 or else I might have snatched it up. I'll have to go see if they still have it for that price now that God of War III is done.

The Kmart ad circular said it was good thru March 27. Also, for those who were tiring of the demo, first 40 mins of the full game finds you attacking a military base wedged into the peak of snow-capped mountain, a high rise casino, and a giant industrial fortress perched high above a massive river (yes, with speed boats all over the place). This is a very good looking game, especially for an open world.

Is it true the game takes a page out of Red Faction's playbook, and spawns tons of enemies to spam you whenever you so much as dare raise a fuss? I read it is like that, and that's enough to turn me away from it.

That's somewhat true, in that your "heat" level goes up to level 1 as soon as you cause the slightest bit of trouble. Guards will come and now you're left with the option of killing them all (which can be done) or running (flying) away to cool of your heat level. However, the enemies don't just spawn over and over...they're limited to whoever is at the facility/location in question. Although, if your heat level is high enough, they will hunt you down with any nearby vehicles or even helicopters. On the upside, it doesn't take very long to cool off - - just jump in a vehicle or aircraft or parasail away. They'll leave you alone after a minute or two.

Have you seen the videos of stunt jumping from a Boeing 737 onto a jet fighter? It's about blowing shit up and pulling off massive stunts. That's it. Btw, with the grapple hook/parachute combo, you actually parasail at a greater speed than the vehicles.

Edit: Also, given your love for Mercenaries, I would have thought you'd be all over this.

Exactly why I loved the demo. Realism in games is only good to a point. They more unrealistic it is, the more fun it usually is.

I didn't say it was necessarily a bad thing. In fact, my wife was playing the demo when I went to get a drink earlier. It looked pretty damn cool. She blew up some facility.

That is fucking great. Lol. I can't imagine how much shit could be hidden in this game. I'm really loving this so far. I'm surprised really. Thought it was going to be crap.

I flew over that. My plane just all of a sudden doesn't work. Lol it's fun that the part of the island it's on shows that it's in the ocean. Too bad it doesn't play the sad music. And what you find has no point from what I can tell. Bummer. Cool it's in there though. Also, smoke monster sound plays too.

Wasn't that in another game too?

This is such a great game. I hadn't gotten to that island yet but it's going to be the next place I investigate.

Picked it up today, found an airbase with fighter planes and well, there was no stopping me from trying to steal firefox after that. Got into one, wound up taxing off the runway by mistake, then bailing on that and roping over to the one that was launching to catch me, ripped open the canopy and just yanked the dude out like he was nothing, took off and promptly crashed into a lear jet.

I have started and abandoned a lot of cool Mercenaries-type games in recent times (Red Faction 2, Far Cry 2, The Saboteur, etc.) but this has held my interest longer than those and I will probably finish it. The grapple/parachute combo kicks ass, and being able to quickly fly to any village you have been to makes it a great game to pick up and play in short bursts. It's still forgettable in the story department but every aspect of the gameplay has been refined over the original.

This just got multiplayer added. I never finished it anyway so I'm reinstalling, but apparently it's just a giant free-for-all with everyone on the one island.

I'm not a big fan of multiplayer games anymore (largely because I tend to suck). But JC2 was one of my favorites of this gen, and multiplayer would be pretty damned cool. The island is huge, so one big free-for-all sounds interesting.

Is this an official patch, or that crazy mod that supports thousands of players?

Unofficial, but it seems to have some level of support from the real developers.
