you have two weeks to listen to it... it's fine.
It's still too fucking long.
It really wasn't the intention to have this episode be that long. Casey is hardcore "the show should be short!", and I hate short podcasts, but I'm not arguing the point. This time around, though, the news went crazy long for some reason.
Well I'm not saying it has to be super short, just that 3 hours is out of control. Best to keep it under 2 which is still plenty long.
So, while I think we've come a long way in the audio quality of the show since our first episode, I've heard from a few people that the overall volume can still be a little low on certain devices.
Well, I'm happy to report that I've finally figured out what the issue is: the option in GarageBand that says "use this feature to help fix the show's audio and make sure the volume is set high enough" actually does the complete opposite. *laughs* After turning this option off and re-exporting the latest episode, there is a noticeable increase in the overall show volume level.
If you checked out Stage 004 and had no problem with it, then great! If you did have volume issues, however, the fixed version of the episode is now up. If you're subscribed to us in iTunes, just delete Stage 004, refresh the feed, and you'll be able to grab the fixed version. You'll know for certain that you have the fixed version when, in the show notes, it now says "//Stage 004: Special Edition" (where before it just said "//Stage 004").
I plan to go back and fix the volume on all of the older episodes, but that hasn't happened just yet. The fixed Stage 003 is up, and the rest of the shows will soon follow. To be safe, I'd say all back episodes will be replaced for sure by the time Stage 005 hits.
Also, yes, Stage 004 was super-duper long, and though I love it, my two co-hosts prefer shorter shows. We're going to be working on this, with the possible solution being to do the show weekly instead of bi-weekly (so we can do 1 ~ 1.5 hour shows instead of 2 ~ 3 hour shows).
weekly 1-1.5 hour shows would be vastly better IMO.
Well, the initial idea was to do the show bi-weekly, to make sure we'd actually have enough to talk about, and it's ended up that we're finding that there's way more to talk about every show than we expected.
So, going weekly does indeed seem like it'd work out after all.
Length isn't a problem. Not everyone rides the bullet train to work.
Though I understand if your co-hosts have trouble recording the whole thing. You can't pause and resume like a listener.
Why the fuck not?
You could also, I don't know... edit the long podcast into something more manageable.
