The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

When you talk to Raymond after he's attacked, you get the quest Suspect: Declan Leuvaarden. Except I didn't, but following the Vizima Confidential quest still told me to talk to him, and I went through the whole quest and cleared his name and nothing happened and it was still telling me to talk to him. Turns out I didn't hit the little green button when I read the suspect list item he gave me. I loaded an old save and figured this out and then went back and re-read it and magically the next story event happens as soon as I read the paper even though I had already solved the quest the paper gives me.

Stupid. It wasn't an actual dead-end but it dead-ended the quest structure and there was nothing at all to help me figure out what I had done wrong. Lo and behold like 45 minutes later I visited a Shani at night THEN at day the other way around and somehow deadended the quest tracker again, but I don't think progress itself is stuck this time.

Yeah, definitely pay attention when you get anything you can read and do so immediately. There are certain kill quests that you can't do without having the creature background from books or lore also.

But the problem was I COULD do the quest. The same goal completed two quests, one that I had and one that I didn't, but because of the one that I didn't I couldn't get credit for the one that I had. That's how it got screwed up, so rather than saying the next step for me (i.e. find suspects, or read the paper or whatever) it would just perpetually tell me to do what I already did.

CD Projekt is holding a conference about this game right now.

They also showed a bunch of gameplay that I didn't watch because I wasn't in the stream. General consensus is that it's a huge improvement over the first game.

I too started The Witcher this week and am about 5 hours in. Other than the combat, I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I'm not a fan of having the environment cordoned off by waist-high fences, but I'm still in the first area post-prologue so I'll withhold judgement on the environments.

There's some variant of that throughout. This is not an open-world game like Oblivion or Two Worlds, it's a game of comparatively small, discrete areas connected by gates and bridges and other artificial choke points.

I don't mind the size of the environments, and think they fit the feel of the game well. I just don't see why the fences have to exist other than at the borders of the map.

I can't remember why i stopped playing the first one, i loved what i played. I think i might give it a go again.

I just really hated the side quests etc, I avoided them all like the plague as they just weren't even remotely interesting. Main story and the combat were the saving graces for the first one. I know I've made my opinion on the first one known, but I am really excited for this one. BUt ugh @ securerom.
