This is right around the same time last season that the Jays collapsed down the standings, and so far this year, the Jays have enjoyed what's probably close to the easiest schedule that could be made for a team residing in the AL East. Nine straight games against the two teams in the division that are ahead of you in the standings is a big deal at any time of year. Schedule them at the point in the season when the pretenders begin to fade and the contenders begin to emerge should allow for a little bit of hyperbole to be acceptable amongst Jays fans.
Looking at this roster, there is no way that this team should be in contention, so if the Jays remain competitive there are going to be a lot of stretches of games throughout the season that are important. While it may not be the most accurate forecaster for the rest of the season, it's alright to get a little bit worked up
