It's what the people allow it to get away with. Right now everyone's such a pussy they're afraid of the boogeyman. Everyone is going to die sooner or later. Whether it be by a sudden heart attack, getting hit by a bus, or being blown up in a building by some idiots. The true issue here is how you want to live. I don't want to cower in fear all my life because of the what-ifs. I accept metal scanners, and sniffing dogs, and people searching my bags once in awhile. But that's it.

Undertaking massive amounts of underhanded dealings in the name of safety is ripe for abuse. Secrecy is never good - and only warranted in small doses. Not the monstrous amount coming out now.

Apparently Dyncorp (the security company tasked with training the Iraqi cops) has been pimping little boys about 8 - 15 years in age to Afghani cops. We know of this thanks to the cables. Fuck whoever thinks this shit should be top secret.

Who is going to die now that we know that a private contractor is doing this? Nobody. The only reason it is secret is because it is hugely embarrassing and shameful. Of course Americans have a right to know this is going on.

I haven't watched the Daily Show in some time and I'm surprised at how John Stewart was playing these cables off as no big deal.

Stewart seems to be peddling the official line, which is that is a combination of "these cables don't reveal anything we don't already know" and "Wikileaks has blood on their hands." Of course anyone with a working brain knows instantly that both of those things can't be true. It turns out neither of them are, but this is America.

I haven't seen him say anything close to either. He interviewed Hugh Shelton who compared Assange to Bin Laden, and Stewart said that was hyperbolic, but that was the only time I saw him bring it up and he kind of just let Shelton give his opinion.
