On the plus side, Wikileaks is winning. Exposing this kind of activity is their entire reason for existence. Not just the acts reported in the leaks, but the nature of the people repressing the info. The entire contemptible circus that's sprung up to silence Wikileaks is so blatantly, obviously wrong, Assange must be doing cartwheels in his jail cell. I just wish something more would come of it than entertaining internet drama.

Oh, no. I understand what WikiLeaks is trying to do. I get it. I agree with certain information being made available, like the Shell/Nigeria cable. I believe in transparency and the right to information. That keeps companies/governments honest and forces positive change. What I don't agree with is releasing everything to the public like a fucking international TMZ/gossip site. You disagree with me that certain information doesn't need to be shared with the general public. Fine. That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I respect that.Quote:

Fuck that. I have a right to my privacy. I don't necessarily think my Government does.
But do you need to know everything? Every little thing that's said and done? I agree about government transparency, but I think there should be limits. I don't have faith in the public's intelligence to handle certain information if it was made available to them.
Who sets the limits?
Therein lies the rub: The government; a government full of officials the people elect into office and officials whom the people trust will know what limits to set. But that's a whole can of worms I don't want to open right now.
I don't trust the government to set reasonable limits on their transparency.
I can't see how any reasonable person could.
What need? It should always be made open. It's up to each individual citizen to know how much he or she wants to know. The government should never decide the limit. The government isn't my daddy. Fuck it. It should work for me and when it doesn't it should be taken apart and restructured.
