SH is done. Move on.
IGN: 4.5
Thankfully they posted this early enough that I could delete my Early Access on Goozex and move it to something else.
Jesus. Let it die in peace.
Even if Team Silent got back together to make a proper sequel, I don't think it would have much impact. Everybody is pretty familiar with the formula at this point, and there's not much more they can do with the story. The series has been in decline since the second game (although I love part 3 and even enjoyed The Room). Not really sure why people allow themselves to get their hopes up at this point.
That being said, I'm looking forward to the HD Collection.
Edit: Just read the review. Rolled my eyes when I got to the number one indicator that a developer simply Does Not Get It when it comes to this series: focused on combat.
It just needs to reinvent itself. It's the same with GTA. After San Andreas, there was nothing new.
Shattered Memories was at least trying in that regard, even if it didn't really work out (the choice of consoles it came out on didn't help). If this series absolutely has to continue, I'd like to see more efforts in that vein. Also, I have a hard time getting over Akira Yamaoka not doing the soundtracks anymore. Nothing he did after 3 ever came close to matching the original material, but his sound is integral to the atmosphere I associate with Silent Hill.
1 & 2 were incredible, with 1 perhaps topping 2 in terms of an atmosphere of utter dread, loneliness, and being generally disturbing, but 2 holds the crown when it comes to story and generally being a great big psychological mind-fuck (although it was pretty disturbing as well, although not in as gory a way).
I agree with you that he series stared a gradual decline starting with 3, but I too enjoyed that installment as well as The Room. But once Team Silent moved on and the American developer took over and went on auto-pilot, the series took a nosedive. Fuck, it didn't even help that Akira Yamaoka stuck around to do the music, since his soundtracks got less inspired and more generic and shitty with each passing game (whereas his work in the first four games or so was mind-blowing, though obviously very inspired by Portishead...not a bad thing, since they're a creepy-sounding group). Clearly, he just wasn't into SH anymore.
Anyway, like I said a few posts above, the series is done. I will cherish 1 & 2 forever, but it's time to either radically re-invent SH like Doc said or just take it out back and fucking shoot it.
Oh, and this:
LOL. This series is fucked.Quote:

I would rank 3 before 1 as well, but only because 1 is an absolute bitch to play now. The story in the first game, or rather the lack of one beyond hints and vague suggestions, was far more interesting to me than 3's attempt to explain everything away. 3 takes the cake for fucked up enemies and Otherworld sequences, though. It just relentlessly hammers on your nerves.
And yeah, that Korn song was where I lost all hope Downpour would be worthwhile.

Nice job striking when the iron's hot and a shitty band is totally still relevant, guys.
