TNL's GotM: March 2010

February 2010 Winner: BioShock 2

I'm surprised that Heavy Rain got so few votes last month. BioShock 2 and Espgaluda II were neck-and-neck for a while, but the former won out in the end.

This past month was awesome for games. I'm going to have to hold off on voting since I haven't played half of them as much as I'd really like to. The early standout for me is Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening, which a lesser company would have sold as a full-fledged sequel. Sakura Wars is also pretty interesting, though I haven't played it enough to make a judgement call yet.

I've had to make some tough choices as to what should go on the poll. Notable absences are unfortunately many: Resonance of Fate, Red Steel 2, WarioWare D.I.Y., Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising, and Mega Man 10 all didn't quite make the cut.

Bad Company 2. Single player wasn't as great as Modern Warfare 2 (it didn't have stupid plot twists though), but the multiplayer is so good.

Mega Man 10 belongs in a garbage can, not a GotM poll

Sakura Wars does not belong on this list.

Also as much as I like SMT, GoW3 wins.

Can you take all the stupid shit off the list and just have the option of Deadly Premonition, since no one knew what it was the month it actually came out? SMT can stay, just because SMT is pretty rad.

March was an odd month. I see lots of "major" releases on the list, but almost nothing there interests me at all. I didn't buy any of those yet, and I really only plan to buy Metro 2033 for anything resembling full price. I'm sure I'll wind up with Yakuza 3 on the cheap, and my wife rented Just Cause 2, but I haven't played it.

Patchwork Heroes is better than 80% of that list.

BC2 easily. Its a balance patch away from GOTY.

Red Steel 2 would get my vote but its not up there so I'm not voting.

Same here, RS2 was surprisingly awesome.

Metro 2033 is heavy on atmosphere but has some issues. The game wants you to be stealthy, but it's practically impossible to play that way.

GoW3 was awesome though...maybe not as good as Bayo-something but it was a great ride

I wish Mega Man 10 didn't feel so off... it really seems like it's a Tengen game or something, the music/design is just a shade wrong.

Bad Company 2, easily one of the best console multiplayer FPS. So much strategy and toys to play with.

Surprisingly, those 2 DS games I really want to try.

GOW3 was the game of the month. Even with flaws, it delivered awesome experience.

SMT is the best RPG I've tried on DS, and doesn't feel like a watered-down side project like Suikoden Tierkreis and Valkyrie Profile DS did. Otherwise Red Steel 2 and Inifinite Space were fun as well.

Battlefield owns bitches. GOW 3 was way overrated. Fuck that game.

GoW 3 was by far the highlight of gaming for me this year, last year, probably the year before. I have enjoyed the series since I first tried it, and the last installment was just balls to the wall awesome. Hands down game of the month.
I didn't get to try BBC2 yet, but I really want to.

I LOVED GoW 1 thought it was amazing. GoW 2 just felt too much like more of the same, I got really sick and tired of QTE enemy after enemy. I'd like to play the 3rd one but it'll be when it's 20 bucks new.

Yakuza 3 for me, no contest.

And this is the problem with GotM polls. I would guess nobody in a given month has played every game listed so it's skewed not to which game is better but what game more people have played.

Yep, you're right. But I have played the majority of the games, and Yakuza 3--no matter its problems or truncation--simply entertained me more. Strange Journey is indeed compelling; God of War III is pretty fucking cool, if a little stale; FFXIII is beautiful, but I'm so tired of these half-baked, melodramatic characters that spout cliche after cliche; Just Cause 2 I personally did not care for; Infinite Space is a great game but technically under par, even for a DS game; finally, Metro 2033 is eerie but with some fundamental problems--worth your time, though.

Can't say I've played any of the others. Deathsmiles got the most play from me the entire month, honestly.

Just Cause 2, because I've been playing it since the day I got it and can't seem to stop.

I'm seriously thinking about selling MW2, since BC2 has pretty much taken its place.

Resonance of Fate is probably not better than everything on that list, just most of them. A JRPG with an actual new battle system, and a cool storytelling style, hampered only by the few conventions it can't seem to shake off. Such a turn around for the dev of the shitstorm known as Star Ocean 4.
