do they shut down the servers on last years model? So that when 2012 comes out and 2011 is $19.99, project $10 won't matter anyway?

they have been known to do just that, but its usually a 2 or 3 year old game i think. they usually do it in bunches to. like my mom
makes me wonder what people are going to think when ea shuts down server access for people who paid an extra $10 for it.
There is a running list of EA games with shutdown servers:

EA is so easy to hate. The best part is that most of these games would still be around if the servers were being run by Microsoft. You know, like 99% of the other games on Live.Quote:
As background information, the EA SPORTS™ games scheduled for shutdown in February and March 2011 represent roughly 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles. Despite some people's perception, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these older games up and running. We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games. These decisions to retire games is never easy. The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we appreciate your ongoing patronage.
Hurrah! EA is killing off the online pass due to user feedback. Also known as fuck we need some good PR.

In related news, EA's next gen games will require an internet connection and a one-use CD key to launch.
Just like Valve's games, then.
Just like every PC game, really. It's a good thing that I got over the used game thing a decade ago!
Forced server checks at launch can fuck right off though.
It's ok when Valve does it because they make shitty hats and trading card crap all day long
oh, actually that sucks ass
EA + Microsoft = always online. I don't mind though. Like Diff says, Valve and such. Just don't expect Microsoft to be so customer friendly or forward thinking. Or try using Origin once.
