you jest, but I could see this shit happening

I don't think he was jesting.
I'm not a leftist. At all. And I was half joking but really, people go apeshit over how Valve does everything while EA still makes, well, games I care about. For months I heard about how Origin was the scourge of the earth, but both work the very same for me (except I download 2x as fast from Origin but whatever). Doing all this stuff is akin to making MP in an SP game, it really almost never affects affect the SP at all, but you still think "I wish resources were spent elsewhere".
If you don't care about Portal 2, there's no hope for you.
And Valve does absolutely everything at least as well as EA, plus sooner (except the negative things). But hooray for EA coming up with something that "work[s] the very same for [you]" a decade later.
The only EA Sports game that I've bought relatively recently was SSX but that's pretty much it.
I bought it new (should have waited though) but I enjoyed the crap out of it and it's DLC and I think that's the game where I got the Origin account from which syncs with other games like Fuse and such.
The other EA sports games I'm not really a fan of given their annual updates, I mean they're good for a season and I'm sure that the people who buy them play the crap out of them but they're basically as useful as coasters after new editions come out. I don't buy used nor from Gamestop either so with certain exceptions I'm usually more of a always buy new/cheapassgamer/late to the party type of guy.
To be clear its not just EA Sports titles that are ditching the online pass. EA's other games like Battlefield 4 are going to ditch it too. This thread is so old that when it was originally posted it was just EA Sports doing it.
The online pass thing turned to crap pretty quickly. With ME2 and BC2, at least you were getting legit content. If they kept it up like that, less people would've been upset over time. But then you got Dead Space 2 with that useless MP mode...
The last EA sports game I played was a Tiger Woods game from a couple years ago. There was so much content in my face that I was locked out of that it seemed more like a free-to-play game than something worth paying for.
