Show, I am dissapoint.
The upside is that there will be twice as many.
Wow. This might beat Heroes for me in how fast a show can go from awesome to shitty unwatchable garbage. I don't get why they can't stick to the original comic flow. If they just would've used it as a storyboard, there's enough there for 10 seasons.
I'm really hoping Season 2 will be more like the first and second episodes, because so far this show is a huge let-down.
I didn't think the finale was shitty unwatchable garbage. Shane's outburst to Lori was probably the best part of the episode (Although him drinking in the shower? Come on, TV. We can get that he's sad without resorting to that obvious of a cliche). Jon Bernthal is probably the best actor on the show, and I really like what they're doing with Dale. THe show still has potential, but it definitely wasn't very well explored last night, which... may have been my least favorite episode. The CG looked terrrrible with the explosion and I don't know if all of that half-explained reason for the outbreak was all that fruitful. They're probably going to try for a cure more, the doctor's name was Edwin Jenner, which is a play on Edward Jenner, who invented the small-pox vaccine, so... I mean, that's probably a cue towards something.
Also, I didn't realize this at the time, but it seems really obvious after it was pointed out. Jenner whispered to Rick: Lori's bloodwork came back that she's pregnant.. Otherwise why would they even include the bloodwork?
Overall... eh. Not the best, but not irredeemable. I hope they can get their act together next season.
itt: pussy-flapping geeks.
So, I read the comic since I couldn't stand the wait. Even though the CDC is not in the comic, yes, she does get pregnant.
Anyway, I'm through 59 issues so far. If the show keeps this pace up, we're looking at a dozen seasons or so. :D
Anyway, spoiler mode on as we discuss how the comic relates, diverges, and hopefully merges back:
So...since Shane didn't die, what do they do with him? Does he take the role of Tyrese? Do they make up things for him to do as they go? Do they kill him soon?
On that note, Rick's kid hasn't killed anybody yet. He has to if he is going to end up where he should. Maybe he kills Shane to defend his mom.
Do you suppose the CDC is a "substitute" for the story line in that overrun gated suburban community? Andrea gets with that old dude during that story line, and while the CDC story line didn't have them fucking each other, it did end with them bonding in a way. So, what do you think for the TV series? Next stop Hershel's farm?
Can the TV series possibly make Rick into the character he eventually becomes?
That one article said that the farm might be up next with Michonne showing up earlier than in the comics.
And if Shane replaces Tyrese I'm going to be pissed. Just kill the fucker already, the crazy-guy love triangle plotline isn't nearly strong enough to get stretched out very long, and honestly Rick & Lori dealing with it while Shane is dead is much more interesting. I think it will happen eventually but really, things in the show haven't gotten bad enough that Rick feels the need to train Carl to shoot.
Whoa, let's get a grip here.
I laughed really hard at Shane drinking in the shower, that was really, really bad. I didn't mind the "presentation" that the Dr. did. I mean, he would know, so why not? They never even talk about what started the problem, just what it does to you. I thought hearing about the time frame people change is good to know just to get a better sense of the rules at play. It also gives insight to the doctors mental state, why he didn't think anyone should give a shit about living any more. Plus being alone and stressed out for a month+ will fuck you up pretty bad too.
Sure it's not perfect, but it's still a fun show. Obviously I haven't read the books so I don't have expectations of where the story should be going.
Any idea the timeline of how long Rick has been awake? His coma seems to have been for a little over a month, but it doesn't seem like he's been running around with everyone for very long...the unrelenting misery hasn't set in for him yet.
... I know.
Shane drinking in the shower was definitely an eye rolling moment, but I still think he's the best actor the show has got going for it. Save for maybe Glenn. So... I wouldn't mind if Shane has a stronger presence than he does in the comic. At least for another season.
