The Walking Dead

That shit was so stupid. As a director, why even put Dale on the roof if you're doing to have the zombies surprise the group. I mean shit just have them come out from behind the giant overturned tractor trailer that's blocking their view or something, ANYTHING but pulling the camera back to reveal that there was no way they could have possibly missed them.

Also, whoever is doing the sound effects for the gore needs to tone it the fuck down. So completely absurd. We get it, they're zombie guts. That doesn't mean it sounds like you're slamming a plunger into a bucket of water every time you stab/bludgeon something.

But other than that (and the deer scene being really fucking weird) it was quite good.

You are right on Firstblood! I thought this episode was a letdown. next week it looks like they will be around buildings and a more urban area. i am getting sick of the woods, especially when they digress to a little kid getting shot as he walks over to pet a HUGE buck. Wow, how stupid was that.

I thought the episode was great.

Season premiere did kinda ok:

The second season premiere of AMC's "The Walking Dead" last night broke records with the strongest telecast for any drama in basic cable history.

7.3 million viewers overall tuned into the first broadcast of the episode with 4.8 million of those in the key adult 18-49 demo, a 38% and 36% increase respectively over season one's series average on AMC. Repeat viewings later that night culminated in 11 million viewers total for the episode.

I thought the first episode was good. Nitpicky comments are veering on sharp knees territory.

The big problem is that none of the characters, with the exception of blondie, are very interesting. But I'll keep watching.

I think the Dale missing the huge horde of zombies on the half mile of open road complaint is completely valid. The shot right after they're spotted, which specifically pans out to show the vast amount of space he should have seen them in, was also a glaringly huge oversight.

Nothing else was really deal breaking and overall it's still a very good show.

I've never heard that phrase ("sharp knees") before. But it's oh, so appropriate when talking about this show and its criticism.

Not really.

This show just isn't very good at creating interesting characters or mining them for dramatic purposes.

Still, I thought the premiere was ok - especially compared to the trainwreck(s) at the end of last season

I tend to think of the zombie shot on the highway as a "Cloverfield". There's a bit in Cloverfield after the helicopter crashes where the camera guy walks over and picks the camera up off the ground. Then all of a sudden the Cloverfield monster exists because the camera can see it, unlike any of the three characters who should have been more than a little aware of the noisy, multi-story-tall monstrosity stomping loudly towards them. A Cloverfield is the kind of shot that reinforces in the viewer's mind that nothing outside the camera's view matters, so you probably shouldn't waste your time caring. Fortunately, seeing as Walking Dead is a tv show, there's time for them to learn not to do anything quite that stupid again.
