You can play the RE demo after you buy a 3DS and make up your own mind.
I don't know about Shinobi, still don't trust it to be that good.

Shinobi is basically all the good parts of the best Shinobi titles mashed together, with tons of unlockable content and achievements. It's even got challenge rooms similar to the ones in Bionic Commando: Rearmed. I've put in over 20 hours and I still haven't beaten it on Normal.
If you're curious about it, check out the FAQ page at GameFAQs. The developers are very active on the message board and contributed to the FAQ.
For comparison's sake, I've spent about 6.5 hours on Mario Land and I'm at the end of the first playthrough. It's good, I've just been caught up with other games *cough*Dark Souls
I am far more compelled to replay the levels in Shinobi than I am Mario Land. Shinobi also offers a greater challenge. Mario Land is good, and if you're in the mood to play a Mario game, you can't go wrong with it. However, if I could only choose one, I'd go with Shinobi.
Like Chux says, both are great. Fun to play, well-designed, have a lot of content, and can easily be played in small increments. Not really a bad choice to be made.
I very rarely use the 3D effect feature myself, and games look great without it.
Am I the only one that has my 3D always cranked up? I've gotten really used to it.
Usually, I have it cranked up 1/2 to 2/3. If I put it on full blast I get a double-vision effect that looks terrible and hurts my eyes.
For some games, like Mario Kart 7, I can't imagine not using the 3D.
Ditto. I wouldn't own the system if not for the 3D.
3D is great. I only turn it off on the games where the developers went wild and don't understand eyestrain.
