Random Who shit:
I love the concept behind Amy. Take the hottest chick in the show's history and stick her with a husband and a kid. Great idea.
Also, am I alone in finding the Matt Smith episodes horribly convoluted and very unfriendly to noobs? Every time I try and get into one they just seem to be trying way too hard to create the next end-all, be-all dramatic masterpiece with a million different threads that reference all sorts of shit at a rapid-fire pace. I don't expect every little thing spelled out, nor do I expect the show to cater to new viewers constantly, I don't recall the Tennant episodes being so fucking frantic and all over the place.
And while we're on the Matt Smith shows...I also feel a need to comment on the music. As we all know, music can build mood and atmosphere, as can silence. Too much of either can be bad. With the Smith shows, I feel the music is non-stop and never lets up, which eventually just gets annoying. A lot of the older Who episodes had plenty of stretches of silence, which were quite effective (and probably cheaper, taking into account the low budgets at the time) but with Smith, it feels like you're getting a full hour of music, no matter what kind of scene you're watching at any given time. Again, I'm not a regular Smith viewer, so this might just be in the episodes I'm catching, but it bugs me.
And finally, the girlfriend and I watched "The Invasion" yesterday, an eight-part episode with the Second Doctor, who we're both becoming quite fond of. Good stuff. There was a part where a Cyberman is shooting at the Doctor my GF found it increadibly endearing that every time the ground under his feet blew up the Doctor would yelp and jump in the air while holding his butt. :)
The Ponds exit the building on Ep 7 IIRC.
Hadn't heard that - gave it a Google and speculative evidence was there but eh. It would be pretty damn hilarious but I don't think so. If for no other reason than their departure episode already involves the Weeping Angels and is is a one part story. No way that the Master would also fit.
Does that... really matter? She's still hot, and it's not like I was going I was considering dating a fictional character. Whether she's hot and married or hot and single, she's still great to look at. And... it's TV - looking is all you can do.
Did you watch the latest? It was still a busy episode but there was very little arc stuff and it was pretty stand alone. This whole season is supposedly like that.Quote:

Doctor Who has had the same composer since it came back on the air and I think he's improved a hundred fold. Didn't care for the music much at all when it was Eccleston but it's gotten better every season IMO. I really love it now. But you're totally right. Any time an episode ends I'm stuck with the motifs in my head because they never let up.Quote:

Have not seen that one, but I've loved the handful of second Doctor stories I've seen. He's so great.Quote:

Dole... your issues probably stem from the fact when Smith took over, it wasn't just a new Doctor, but also a new showrunner: Russel T. Davies was in charge for the Eccelston and Tennant years, now it's Stephen Moffat. I find that, while I like Smith's Doctor almost as much as Tennant's (though he took much longer to grow on me), I like the show as a whole quite a bit less than under Davies. =/
Wasn't all of the good shit under Davies was written by Moffat anyway?
I was at my folks' house all weekend and couldn't watch the premiere until last night.
The concept of a Dalek asylum (and insane/war-scarred Daleks in general) was pretty brilliant, and I got total nerd chills when they explain to the Doctor that they find hatred of that magnitude beautiful. Amazing that they keep finding ways to introduce massive groups of a race previously thought to be near-extinct. Decent twist at the end, and I got a laugh out of the trailer for the rest of the series.
"Dinosaurs...on a spaceship!"
Most of the Smith episodes seem to have a huge budget compared to Eccleston's run and some of the earlier Tennant stuff. At least to me, they tend to feel like small films instead of episodes of a television series. While it's cool to see the show get the attention it deserves from the BBC, I do sorta miss the hokey quaintness that I typically associate with Doctor Who.
I just recently got my GF into Who with Tomb of the Cybermen and not The Invasion, and she's suddenly turned into a huge fan and wants to check out all the other Doctors. So, a winner is me, I guess.
In any situation involving a woman, a kid = less hotness.
Tried, missed it. Perhaps I will try again.Quote:

Still, I can't explain it. There's just something about Matt Smith that I don't like. Maybe I'm not giving him a chance, or maybe it's that he's coming after Tennant, who was awesome. Or maybe it's that I just recently discovered how ass-kicking Doctor #2 is and, again, Smith just doesn't measure up.
To me, Smith is kind of like the Timothy Dalton of the Bond flicks, only annoying instead of bland.
My GF actually noticed the ever-present music before I did, but once she pointed it out, it really got on my nerves. The music itself is good, but everything in moderation, you know? You don't have to fill every fucking second of an episode with it.Quote:

Have you seen Tomb of the Cybermen? It's fantastic. The Invasion is very good, but not quite as good as Tomb.Quote:

I know. They used to use flashlights as lasers. FLASHLIGHTS. I loved that shit.
