Nintendo World Cup is a bit different from it's Famicom counterpart (henceforth called Kunio's Soccer). In the main 1-Player, you're allowed to choose one of fourteen teams but in reality you're jus choosing the same team with a different color scheme. You also get additional members in the Japanese version as you progress through the game. In contrast though, Nintendo World Cup actually allows up to four-players.
The Mega Drive version of Kunio's Soccer is quite good, which is quite a surprise since the company that made that port also made the god-awful MD version of Double Dragon II. You get to play as all the teams in the Versus Mode (not just five of them) and there's a new charge mode which involves holding the C button.
Umm what does Nekketsu mean? And why do lots of these games have it in their title? Are all these games part of a series?
Nekketsu is the name of high school that Kunio and co. go to.
It literally means "hot blood".
