NHL11 (Sports GOTY)

I'd rather play NHL online myself to be honest with you but I naturally prefer to play hockey videogames to basketball. The majority of my competitive sports video game (and fighting game for that matter) playing is done offline so I'm just commenting on the offline game itself. 2K11 is such a well done complete package and is the first video game that actually feels like real basketball where I have an inclination to wait for NHL 12 in anticipation of more finished product. I'll probably crack and get 12 anyway.

I do agree that as a single player experience, NBA 2K11 > NHL 11. Jordan Challenges are awesome. EA should have beefed up the HUT single player (and fix the online so you can challenge friends). NHL 11 is worth it though, the real physics make each game more organic, and playing randoms in community actually can be enjoyable.

Yeah the gameplay improvements in NHL 11 are amazing.

The new puck/player physics and rewritten goalie code (no glitch goals!) make it like watching a real hockey game.

And this is the first hockey game I've played where goals are plentiful, yet there is no way to produce "always goals."

Most games online end up with about 5 scores between the two teams.

Custom camera also makes it a ton more fun on offense since you can actually see everything you need to now (shooting lanes, goalie positioning errors).

I just finished a Be a Pro season, so my guy is loaded with boosts now.

Somehow, we ended up making the monthly EASHL playoffs!

First round game, we dominated 3-1.

Second round game, we were up 2-1 in the 3rd period when our right winger made a dumb call for the pass out from the goalie, tying the game 2-2.

Then in overtime they scored the game-winner on a random wrist shot from the blue line with no screen or anything.

Fun games!

Couple more games this afternoon and I'll hit the 30 game plateau and unlock the "pro" card.

So I got to play the Shootout part of this game at a bar and won tickets to a hockey game from it. Now i have to compete against 40 other people for a chance to go to the Winter Classic. Anyone have any advice on the shootout? Control wise etc. I won by juking to the left turning around and putting it in the top right corner, almost every time.

Start out wide, skate in about a 45 degree angle.

Once you get to the hash-marks, do a right-stick deke:

fake backhand, then shoot on your forehand.

Aim for the top corner.

To loosen up the goalie even more, you can try a spin-o-rama before you hit the hash-marks:

Hold LT + half-circle forward/backward on the right stick
