Fuck Madden. Seriously, stick your tiny dick in that disc and get this instead.
Looking amazing, who is in this year? C'mon Yoshi.
Hardly as appealing as the Genesis games. :(
Please... This is easily the best sports franchise out there. It's gameplay improves year after year. Besides, I'm pretty sure that you can have your controls set up like the Genesis games(3 button). I'd really like to see a online fantasy mode in this game. That could be alot of fun.
Also, Yoshi doesn't play multiplayer unless its some lame MMO. He don't wanna see the truth with my Pens.
I have to try harder to play NHL online w/TNL.
My buying this is 100% up to EA. They always make Madden region free and then lock this, because they're EA and have to fuck something up. If it's still locked, I'll see you in Gears 3 in April.
From what I've read the new animation looks great but is badly implemented. The good is that the bodies react more realistically when hit. The bad is that as of the last build there are no sliders for how strong the hits are in single player. For whatever reason it defaults to every hit being like a semi and there are several injuries per game. Also for whatever reason they dialed it down for the offline mode. Why there are no sliders for it is anyones guess.
I fucking hate your new name weeman, every time I see it I feel like I need to go check for spam in a thread.
Boost are super fucking lame, but I still play versus against people. Also, I almost called weeman a noob lol.
I'm in for sure cause I'm not a little bitch like Yoshi. Also, I heard there were sliders in single, but no adjusting for online.
Yeah versus is always cool since it is "boost free."
Plus they still let you team up with a buddy locally to play versus, which is good fun and seems to piss a lot of people off who take the versus rankings way too seriously.
Boosts are lame, but I love online team play so much that they don't really bother me. Though I refuse to play team play and will just play versus when its just me or one other person.
Online should be close to like it is in 10, but the animations should be better. They have enough time to fix things, and I have a feeling there will be no major problems with the game as far as the new hitting goes.
FUCK... Now EA is selling 156 different boosts fior NHL 11. Way to kill the most interesting online gamemode, morons.
http://kotaku.com/5606823/nhl-11-wil...erent-powerups
I wish they would just go back to the old NHL 09 system where the only way to earn attribute points was through the player cards.
But I'm sure they are probably making more money on those damn DLC sales than they are on the game itself.
The achievement list was released today:
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/g.../achievements/
Usually nothing newsworthy about an achievement list, but they happen to confirm two features that haven't been announced yet:
-- EASHL practice mode
-- EASHL custom jerseys
Looking forward to this game coming out and washing away the bad taste of Madden.
Edit:
Looks like the demo will be out next Tuesday, August 17th!
Demo is up on the marketplace!
I played a quick game of Blackhawks vs. Flyers and there were a ton of goals.
If the demo is any indication, "robo-goalies" may finally be out of the game.
Teammate AI is also a ton better on offense.
Thanks ! Downloading now!
Well, I was happy...
This demo is shit. Speed is down, which will be fixed with sliders offline but online versus will be slow and shitty. The "awesome" new animations and physics bullshit for hitting is well, bullshit. The hockey card thing is blah and the new faceoff system is unnecessary.
On the plus side, I finally didn't wiff on one-timers like before. Also, the game is a lil cleaned up, graphically.
I may wait a lil before picking this up. This game is waaaaay too much like last years except for a couple things that make the game worse in my eyes. Also, boosts must fucking die.
Edit: You can set the playstyle to normal which bumps up the speed, thank God!
Yeah the default game speed is a bit slow, but that can always be sped up in the options.
The amount of game customization you can do in NHL is pretty huge.
Goalies are still robo-hard in superstar mode, if you want that. Still, the game this year is treading water and changing things just for the sake of saying something is different, as dyne said.
Bring the new round of consoles already. This gen is done for sports games. Get a second job if you can't afford it, America.
From what I can tell, it seems good. I can never really tell with these demos cause it locks too much of the settings and makes you play a certain way. I really prefer to play as either LD or RD, and I've just become so used to that way that I can't play otherwise. Still a day 1 for me. I like the new look of the HUD, graphics aren't a huge increase, but look good, and the game seems to play fine to me. I'm going to check it out more later.
It feels similar to 10 but that's not a bad thing. Seems like they are focused in milking money from the consumer with the Ultimate team bullshit a la Madden. But the core game is still amazing so this is one of the few games I will day 1.
Yeah that Ultimate Team crap has been shoved into just about every EA sports game.
Thankfully, it is easy to ignore.
I am still waiting to see what the core online modes are going to be like this year; the developers said they still had a couple of major announcements left.
As long as we can get a full team of TNL going, I am happy. Hell, even if there are just 3 of us. The puck does seem to have more of a realistic bounce and glide to it. I like that. Hitting is different, thats for sure. I know online it is going to be scaled down, so that is a good thing. I had a few massive open ice hits and wasn't even going that fast. Of course that can be scaled down in single player as well.
I noticed that the new checking system has move the right stick in a direction to body check and then clicking the right stick to hip check. I need to play a bit more, but it seems this has your guy kind of bend down, so when I am protecting the net and trying to shove the guy standing there, it wasn't really doing much. Am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: Ok, so I dug a little deeper and checked out Hockey Ultimate Team. This mode allows you to lock your position, which is a must for me. I'm going to assume that you can go ahead and start earning shit for you when you get the full game. And if you start a team, you unlock some cards for the retail version as well as when you invite someone to check out the demo. Seem's like a pretty cool mode that will allow you to make your ultimate team and play in tournaments and stuff as well as trade cards with friends. I can see myself getting into it, though my time spent between HUT and Be a Pro almost all relies on the boosts I want to unlock for my online guy.
Also figured out the difference between all the checks. If you just flick the stick really quick you do the basic shove, if you hold the stick, you do the body check, and if you just click it you do the hip check. Really looking forward to this now.
The more I play the demo, the more I am liking the new game. I absolutely love how the puck flies about. Seems much more realistic. When you really nail somebody, you feel it, and it feels good. And it's a lot easier to shove some around by the goal without doing it too hard and getting that penalty. Unless I just plain missed it in 10, depending how long you hold the pass button the harder you pass which makes for some great plays passing up or some really big screw ups passing too hard.
I'm also really interested in the Hockey Ultimate Team mode. I'll probably split my time between Be a Pro, HUT, and online equally. Sounds like a cool idea to build your ultimate team. Just wish you could design your own jerseys or at least team emblem.
Its gameday gentlemen ! Who's in?
I will pick it up today.
Went ahead and created an TNL team. Already got Praxis and a buddy on there, and will send out more invites when I see people and and for those that want in. Not sure how I feel about the new hitting system. Maybe I just need to boost up my stats for online or something. Already found 1 glitch. To unlock the +1 Slap Shot Accuracy boost, you only have to score 2 goals in the Memorial Cup in Be A Pro. Did it twice and the damn thing didn't unlock. Oh well, still loving the game.
Also, anyone know exactly what stick checking is? Is that just when you tap the right stick and do sort of the push rather than bending over and coming to a halt? I really don't care for the body or hip check at all as a LD.
The hitting is so messed up in this game online. Not sure if it is my connection, but I tap the right stick to stick check and about 2-3 seconds later, the animation occurs. Not a problems when I am up ice, but when I am playing D and I need either make the hit or not be out of position, it becomes a huge problem. Think I am going to switch to LW. I am not having any problem with the shooting or passing. Hopefully they ca update the game soon and fix some of this.
The online itself seems jacked up. I couldn't connect for quite some time, then I was only able to play matches against someone in HUT mode. Rosters updated tho, so that was one good thing.
Hitting online is very messed up. I have no desire to play D until they fix it.
I have 1 hits in 5 games. I can score more goals than hitting people, go figure.
I will have it next week. I can't wait.
Unless the CHL games and pre-season games don't count, everything I have done in my Be a Pro isn't showing up in my performance tracker for offline. Not to mention there are several stat boosts that should have been unlocked already but haven't. Though I suppose we shouldn't be surprised.
I'm fucking addicted to the HUT mode. Trading around and got a pretty good team for the first day. There are lots of big names not on the market yet along with some laughable prices for some players. I'd love to see TNL get into this so we can have some tournaments.
I will dig into HUT, I have a feeling my team will suck because I don't have patience for this sort of thing.
You can get a decent team quickly if you don't mind having international players.
I don't care, I really don't follow real hockey (lol).
KoF and a buddy of mine (UTBaller) who has joined some of us in Gears and CoD won a couple of matches tonight. The game is definitely an overall improvement from 10, not that it doesn't need some tweaking. Still way too many glitches (more so having to do with unlocking things than the gameplay), but the gameplay is solid. Despite checking still being off a bit online, the game plays fantastically. I started a HUT team, but have yet to play a game with them, I can tell you, if anyone had any Nashville Preds players and doesn't want them, I beg you to let me have them.
I think I got a couple. I'll check in a bit. Also do me the same favor if you have any Penguins. Maybe we can work out a trade.
Ok. I need to play some more and buy some packs. I wanna play the first reg season game in my BAP to see if it is actually going to count towards my performance tracker, and then I will start with my HUT. Hold on to Belak for me, and I will see what I can get soon.
Will do. Also for Hao whenever he gets it, Prospal is waiting with a long contract. He's a beast.
I see.
Any tips for HUT? What packs should I be saving up for and what attribute cards do I absolutely need to hold on to and use? Like KoF, I may not have the patience for HUT, though I am not giving up just yet.
Got Grebeshkov waiting for you too Cap ;)
As far as getting started, you can either buy a couple jumbo packs the dirty, quick microsoft way(i did) or start playing tournaments. The rookie ones are easy and you get a few thousand bucks for playing through them. Don't spend attribute cards on anyone that you can't see using for a while, definitely use on players with 75 ratings and up. Go to the trading section and buy players for your top two lines. You can get players with 80+ ratings cheap if you buy international players(everyone wants NHL guys). The ultra high-end players aren't worth the price. Like I said earlier, I'm using Prospal on my top line and he's ripping up. Got him for about 1500 and used attribute boosters on him. Signed him to a long contract. Also, you can see how many games the players have left on their contracts when you're trading players. Watch for that. Also, check for coaches that jack up your players stats up as well. There are some bargains out there(coaches are usually less than a thousand).
Jordin Tootoo as well. Damn, this is easy!
I think I am going to focus on BAP, EASHL, and online pickup games for now. I dont want to focus on HUT until I am done with my BAP.
Slowly building up a decent team. Went ahead and got $5 worth of M$ points and got 2 jumbo packs and 1 standard pack. Where do I tell how many games a player has left? Is it Cont? I'll be out of town until Sunday unfortunately, so I wont be able to do anything with the team until then.
EDIT: So HUT just took a huge hit in my book. Unless I am mistaken, you can neither play against friends with you HUT team or trade specifically with friends. I though that was supposed to be a huge part of HUT, the interaction between an online community INCLUDING friends. The only option I can see to play online just sets you up with a random player, the trade only allows you search whats up on the auction place. Kind of lame if you ask me, and gives me little reason to play HUT if I cannot pit my team against a friends team. Hope I am wrong though.
EDIT: Some people have said, at least in Madden, that it is possible to try to coordinate connecting at the same time to be paired with one another, though it may take a few tries. I know it has happened in Gears 2 a hand full of times when we had 2 parties going at the same time. The trading though might be more difficult. I suppose you could be in a party, set it up so where it is as cheap as possible and then tell the other person as soon as the trade goes up and then do the same for the other person. I'll be on most Sunday night, though if more people are on I will more than likely play team play, but now that I am starting to get a decent team, I am getting more in to this. I'd love to try and connect at the same time with some TNL'ers.
It is really dumb not to be able to play your HUT team with your friends (maybe just exhibition). I see that HUT can be very addictive, but I am really focused in getting my rankings online so my player isn't so gimped (in checking anyway).
In case anyone is on the fence, I have played about 25 games on/offline and this is by far the best sports game I have played. All the improvements from 10 really makes a huge difference on the ice (10 was my GOTY).
You guys are on the mark with HUT and playing friends. I thought it was included, possibly without any EA bucks involved, but I don't think it is. Major bummer. I don't care NEARLY as much playing randoms in HUT as I do my friends. Still fun, but wish there was the option. I think its BAP time for me since rosters aren't updated yet.
No friends at all. That is unless you both are in a party and try looking for a game at the exact same time, but even that doesn't guarantee you will play together. Still worth a shot. I will be home midday tomorrow and will be on all day. If you are on, I'd be up fro trying this, even though you will kick my ass. I will still get some pucks anyway. The trading is going to be tough as well. You have to be communicating together at the exact time as the auction goes up so nobody can come in and swoop the prize.
Put it all into body checking. I thought at first that body checking referred to the actual act of performing a body check and stick checking was when you did the shove, This is not the case. Body checking refers to any of the types of checking involved when using the right stick. For some reason, they decided to call poke checking stick checking in the attributes. Maybe not so confusing if they had used the term stick checking elsewhere, but nowhere in the game or the manual do they use the term stick checking, only poke checking.
Easiest way for us to trade or whatever is to just to both be on XBL and set something up for a buy now kinda thing. Kinda shitty but it'd work. Definitely put checking on your players. Hell, the checking cards are cheap as hell. I ran into some real fuckers till I realized what was going on.
In the end, I'm sure I'll get over this and just go back to playing versus once the online shit is working properly and rosters are updated.
I'm back home and will be playing this most of the day. Probably just going to be playing HUT until more people get on who want to play Team Play.
Changeling, if you get on, I'd be up for trying to play some HUT games together. Worth a shot at least. I still haven't been able to get any Penguins players, but then again, I haven't been really trying to trade any of my rare players yet. Right now I am just running through some of the easier single player tournaments.
I'm pretty much just hopping between online team play and HUT. Get your faggoty asses on!
Here is a really good explanation on how the different attributes work.
Quote:
NHL 11 Attribute Explanation
by Oilersguru - EA Moderater
- Deking: The higher the deking attribute is, the more effective loose puck dekes become and the more accurate players will be able to shoot following a deke move.
- Hand-eye: This attribute affects a player's deflections, batted pucks, one-timers, and their ability to pick up hard passes.
- Off. Awareness: Players in possession of high offensive awareness have good vision, which improves their playmaking ability and a knack for finding the back of the net.
- Passing: The higher the passing attribute, the more accurate passes become. The passing attribute also affects the ability to make blind passes and increases the chance they will get passes through traffic as well as making those passes easier to control from the receiving player.
- Puck Control: This attribute affects a player's ability to maintain control of the puck through hits and stick checks (i.e. poke checks and stick lifts). Puck control also determines whether or not one can do an on-knees deke on the breakaway.
- Shooting Accuracy: Wrist shot accuracy and slap shot accuracy control how accurate these shots are.
- Shooting Power: Wrist shot power and slap shot power control how hard a player may shoot the puck.
- Aggressiveness: This attribute gives a bonus to hitting intensity, a big hit intimidates opponents and in high-pressure situations, an intimidated opponent will have reduced shot quality, pass accuracy, and reduced aggression.
- Body Checking: This attribute gives the ability to deliver bigger body checks. Checking also affects the intensity of the hits delivered.
- Def. Awareness: This attribute affects how much a player pays attention to protecting the defensive end of the ice. This includes better ability to take away passing lanes, lower susceptibility to being deked and greater effort on the back check.
- Discipline: The discipline attribute affects the likelihood of taking penalties. For example, if a player has higher discipline, they will be less likely to get an elbow up on a guy during a hit.
- Faceoffs: The winner of a faceoff is determined by a number of factors including this attribute which influences the likelihood of winning the faceoff.
- Fighting Skill: Along with strength this attribute will affect punching power.
- Shot Blocking: Shot blocking affects the speed in which a player gets up from a shot block, and the type of block -- a diving block (on their stomach) or a standing block (straight up legs together). Players with a high shot block attribute will be more likely to do the diving shot block.
- Stick Checking: This attribute affects both poke checks and stick lifts in their ability to take the puck successfully and to avoid taking penalties while doing so.
- Acceleration: This attribute affects how quickly a player reaches top speed. If one has lots of acceleration, the player will get to their top speed faster than someone who has less acceleration but lots of top speed.
- Agility: This attribute affects the ability to turn. The more agility, the sharper one can turn with speed. This also helps when cutting across the ice while back skating on defense.
- Balance: This affects a player's resistance from being knocked over on a hit as well as their puck control. The more balance one has, the better they stay on their feet.
- Durability: This attribute decreases the chance of injury. In EASHL specifically, you can play through all injuries but they will result in a temporary attribute reduction to your player never lasting beyond the end of that game.
- Endurance: This attribute will determine the rate at which the player recovers energy when not skating with high effort. Fatigue will play a greater factor if a player has low endurance. Fatigue affects both skating ability and shooting.
- Speed: This attribute affects a player's top speed. Note that a player cannot sustain a top end speed without high endurance.
- Strength: This attribute is a modifier that affects shot power, fighting, checking, resisting hits, and boardplay. Strength will give extra power in shots, punches and hitting. Strength will also help with resisting hits. Strength affects the ability to pin players to the boards while initiating boardplay, and the ability to slip free when one is being pinned in boardplay.
RedShirt Notes
-Endurance affects how much you can use the hustle button.
-There are minor injuries now, lasting up to around half a period, and Durability reduces the chance of getting one (but they aren't THAT common).
-Strength factors into hitting and resisting hits, but also has an impact on shot power.
-Player types now force tougher decisions in terms of player strengths and weaknesses and the attribute effects are bigger than NHL 10.
-Strength helps your ability to hit, as well as your ability to resist hits. As I mentioned it also factors into shot power.
-Balance only helps resisting hits and also helps in other situations where you might fall.
-Hand Eye affects a lot of things, including deflections, one-timers, bat downs, pickups in difficult situations, bat-ins.
-I think Endurance will matter more than Durability, and that is reflected in the costs. Durability is insurance against injuries, which are relatively rare already. You might want to put some points into Durability if you are a skilled forward and prone to getting hit hard a lot. As you raise your attribs you might be able to get 20 pts of Durability for the same cost as 3 or 4 pts of other stuff like Speed or Strength, at that point it might be worth it.
-Strength and Balance being in the Athleticism category also makes the choices a bit tougher. You can put everything into skating attributes but you will be extremely soft if you do."
-I wanted multiple player builds, but it didn't fit into the plans this year. We did manage to get a last minute change done so that you can change your player type or reset your points directly in the Edit Attributes screen so you don't have to go into the Edit Player area, change it and then go back. That helps somewhat when you want to try different builds or change one for a specific game.
Games tonight anyone?
EDIT: Make that after Sons Of Anarchy
Ill be around tomorrow. I've been working on BAP a bit. Still don't really have shit unlocked yet.
Splitting time with Halo and NHL. I know I will be playing NHL long after Halo.
Will be on by 10ish pm central tonight for sure.
Still not quite understanding the hitting online. I have no problem offline. My body checking, strength, agressiveness is jacked, but i can never constantly make good hits, yet i see people hitting without any problems.
Are the usuals planning on picking this up or playing any time soon? Other than KoF and a buddy of mine, I hardly ever see anyone playing this. I've played a couple of games with Changeling, but never anyone else at the same time. Sadly wEEman (jyoung) has been having some migraine issues since March that are keeping him from doing anything gaming or screen related, though he did say he has been feeling a little better and might be able to get back on sometime in the near future. Hopefully with the stat of the NHL season we can't get some club games going as we have never had enough people on at once to get one going.
I have it but I haven't had any time to play it. I'd play now, but I have to nap so I can party and then I'm gone for two days.
I'm on at weird hours and work is being a busy bitch, but I'll play with you guys when I can. I either need to buy some stats or play BAP alot more. My guy sucks. I get involved with HUT and various season and vanilla online modes, that I dont play as much as I should. This game just has so much going for it. I can get lost for hours.
I am happy with my two way forward, without any boost. I scored twice in last game.
I scored twice with your mom last week.
Im getting on for an ambien-fueled game of hockey... Lets do this ;)
Damn ambien amnesia lol. It knocked me out super fast for some reason.
Anyone here not get the new Dash update? If not, see about getting it, otherwise I cannot party chat.
http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/...w-program.aspx
Can't get in. So gay.
Let's get this club thing going. What time can most people play? If I am working, I can't get on until around 9:30 or 10ish central time, but if I am not working I can play whenever. Where are all the people from last year? Hope this all changes when hockey season starts.
I've got the game but haven't played it yet. :/
I'm into the club/team thing, though.
fuck. Too late.
Too late for what?
Still crushed with work :(
Invite me to the club bitches.
I tried sending one to you last night but it said player not found. I will try again tonight.
I should be on a little before 10 central tonight.
i guess i need to put the disc in
That would help. My buddy should be on for a game or 2 tonight so if KoF is game as well and Cow can make it we would have 4 players.
I cant stay up late. Get on now.
Just dropped in on a drop in game. All the old
Fun was back! I am slower and weaker than everyone. I got stuck on left defense again too, with a forward player with zero defensive ability. I should just rock a d man for drop in games. Anyway, got a goal and assist and then in the third with 6 seconds left in a sure win I drop the gloves and win a fight. But, as I was told by my Canucker teammates, fighting late in the third lags the game out. None of my stats got recorded I guess and we lost connection. LOL EA. Why do I keep signing up for this bullshit?
I sent a join request to the club btw, oh and sticks breaking is not going to enhance my game experience, though sticks getting knocked out of hands is fucking rad.
Stay up late! As for fighting lagging the game out I have never seen that. I have seen teams quit if they are going to lose.
I'll accept ur request when I get home.
I won't be able to join for another hour.
Look I have to be at work at 4 am and I was up til midnight last night and worked at 4 am and I haven't Nappet yet.
Watching the Yankees text me when you two can play we will see if I am awake. 2012892836
Don't give me your lame excuses.
I'll let you know as soon as I am home and see if you wanna play.
