New Ace Combat game featuring a revision of their combat engine, as well as flyable helicopters and what looks like Quick Time Events. Not pleased. No problem with the helis, but man...fuck off with the QTEs.

Ahh Ive been waiting for this announcement for a while now. AC6 was the reason I bought a 360 back in 07. The new trailer looks incredible. Im a huge Ace Combat fan. I play thru 4, 5, 6 and zero all the time.
I love 360's AC6 but it really was very similar to the past PS2 versions. This looks like the proper next gen Ace Combat. It seems they are finally getting the scale correct. The buildings used to be tiny blocks compared to your aircraft. Now it looks like you can fly thru the cities. The visual style and music are spot on Ace Combat thats for sure. Good shit! AC has always had some of the best music in videogames.
The QTEs look like a casual approach to avoiding missiles to me. Maybe a way of drawing in more casual fans due to Tom Clancy's HAWX mild success? HAWX had a beginner friendly 3rd person mode to avoid missiles that you could (thankfully) turn off. We'll see...
The Project Aces (Ace Combat) team said they had no competition for years and would love to see what another team came up with in the genre (HAWX was finally the comp). This new AC definately seems to be the answer to that and more. My number 1 want for the next or any Ace Combat is 4 player online campaign/story co-op. I hope its in this game.

Also, that one takes place in the 'real world' as well.
Hopefully the move to real-world locales also means a move away from the terrible, terrible storylines and dialogue of previous games in the series. I quite liked HAWX and there's nothing like a little competition to make things interesting - HAWX 2 hits next month so it'll be fascinating to see how it stacks up to this game, assuming it comes out early next year.
Edit: and that PSP trailer shows that they haven't learned a damn thing. You'd think they'd at least look up how to pronounce "Antares." Sigh.
The PSP AC looks awesome but I dont do handhelds.
Ehh to each his own. Probably a bit too anime and engrish for some (most?) - but I liked how they built their own connecting universe over the course of the 7 games. AC4's yellow thirteen's story was awesome. 5 and zero had pretty epic stories too - just a bit too anime. AC6's "Dance with the Angels" was lame tho, heh.Quote:

If you play the AC games on expert you run into hidden enemy aces on each stage - and when you shoot them down you get all this background story information on each one in the gallery. I bought 6 with the stick and loved messing around with it but couldn't get into it as much as the PS2 ones. This one looks fun, but I have a feeling the same thing will happen...
I was going to make a thread on this game but I forgot we already had one. Lots of new info has been released the past 2 months. Its been 4 years since Ace Combat 6 and it’s cool to finally see someone try to do new things with the air warfare genre – and Assault Horizon aims to do that it seems. Lots of new screens too - I attached a couple to this post. Game is looking awesome!
Project Aces keeps stressing that Assault Horizon is not Ace Combat 7 – it’s a rebirth/reimagining of the series. Even the biggest AC fan would admit that the past 5 games or so have been very similar. Even so, the Ace Combat series has been dominating the genre over the past decade (HAWX tried at least, heh). Basically if you want jets, Ace Combat is the only option on consoles.
The biggest changes in ACAH is that you don’t just pilot fighter jets but also attack helicopters, door gunners, gunships and bombers. The scale has now changed to feature more up close battles – you can fly thru cities now. The older games were focused on long distance missile/bombing strikes. The combat system has been completely redesigned to do away with the circle missile spamming of the past.
Also, they went and got a well known military author to write the story to ease some of the past AC games’ anime story complaints.

I've still got my flightstick that came with #6. Maybe I won't sell it.
