Shadow Over Cherbobyl + Clear Sky + Call of Pripyat < 2 apparently, because now an official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is coming. I'm curious what a "completely new multi-platform technology" means. Hopefully that's not a euphemism for "dumbed down for consoles." Maybe it'll be something like Steam's PC/Mac crossover.
Not holding my breath when the original STALKER is still the best. Pripyat was an improvement over Clear Sky, but still pales to the first game.
Consoles = PS4/Xbox 720 most likely. I don't think anybody is going to be releasing new tech in 2012 for Xbox 360.

I don't care what console it is. By definition they are outdated tech, because they couldn't even approach mass market pricing otherwise. I also don't care where the money is, as I am not an employee or shareholder in any of these companies.
The business of games (or movies or whatever) is inextricably linked to the products outputted, so yea, actually you should care. If you are consuming them you have to take them on the producer's terms.
The only company that can still sink a gazillion dollars into a PC exclusive that is not an MMO* is Blizzard; even Valve has moved away from that. The console versions of most games are the ones paying the bills, there probably wouldn't be a PC version of most of these games without a console counterpart.
*and there are tons of business reasons why no MMOs are on console except for FF11/14. A console fan that bitches about no MMOs on their 360 is just not accepting reality.
None of this is news. However, Dragon Age is an example of it being done right (well, except for the 300 DLC releases). PC is the lead platform, as it always should be. Then the game is dumbed down for consoles. And it sold a shit ton across all platforms. That's Valve's model too.
And yet Bioware is lobotomizing Dragon Age 2. I don't blame consoles for this, I blame the decision-makers at Bioware. I also wouldn't say any Valve games have been "dumbed down" for consoles, Half-Life 2 EP2 plays identically on 360 as does Portal and L4D.Quote:

I agree that the blame lies with the decision makers, though general ignorance among the consumer base doesn't help, since it skews the data the decision makers look at the wrong way.
In some cases the blame lies with developers, as with, say, Deus Ex 2, where they created something that people just didn't respond to. But in many cases the dumbing down of series actually does bring them to a new mass audience, and in that case, the developers are only responding to consumer demand.
I don't mind so much that its multi-platform as long as the pc is the lead platform. I just played the pc Mafia 2 demo and while its multiplatform its clearly at its best on the pc. Same with Metro 2033 which I just started. Fantastic looking game even without the DX11 stuff so if the pc is the lead platform for stalker 2 then its alright with me as long as they don't dumb it down. Just make a great game please.
That's why I'm not that excited. Clear Sky was pretty much the same thing as the first but less interesting for some reason. I haven't played Pripyat yet but it doesn't sound like they have made an effort to evolve the formula.Quote:
