There's no word on this game yet, but it's new EDF. It's got a completely uninformative web site and everything. Rumors say it's on 360, at least, but we'll see. Need more info now!
-edit- EDF! EDF! EDF!

I will buy this day one.
Funny, I was just playing Earth Defense Force 2017 today out of the blue. I'll definitely be picking this one up. Hopefully it'll have online co-op this time around.
Is Sandlot making this?
EDF is the best 3D Gauntlet ever. Make it 4p co-op please.
I got bored with EDF about as quickly as I've ever become bored with anything.
Even pussy?
I hope this game has a shitload of co-op options and the same 1 guy who does the voices for everyone in the game. And of course the awkward running/turning animations. I really loved the last game for reasons I can't explain. I guess maybe it's because it was the only split screen co-op game I could tolerate in a long time.
I will be very happy if I can slaughter humongous ants and spiders with other people in online co-op.
The previous game was alot of fun. I hope this one is 4 players.
The subscription I just renewed for $11? Easily. :D
I'd piss my pants if this turned out to be a DS game
Hopefully we see some more insect types in this one.
centipedes would seriously make me re-evaluate purchasing this
ewww
A remake of the PS2 EDF2 is all it would take to make me happy.
James
Seeing that banner made the conference bearable, most of the thoughts keeping me awake were of killing giant ants and robots.

Short version- Sandlot isn't developing it, Vicious Cycle (Matt Hazard) is. Three-player co-op online. Color me concerned but hopeful.

It's not like Sandlot did wonders with 2017 (especially compared to the PS2 game), so this might actually be better under another developer. Definitely "wait and see," but no red flags yet.

Six minutes in.
Looks fucking awful.
this is more disappointing than DmC
Is the first one (360) still worth playing in 2010? I always wanted the game but I never see it anywhere and I never got around to ordering it online.
Looking promising. I like the sound of the different classes, and the enemies actually animate instead of scooting around like they're being moved by an invisible hand, like they used to.
I like the improved graphics, but I'm worried that it will come at the sacrifice of the number of enemies.
Oh yes, I think I'm feeling more optimistic now.
James
It's kind of like if Dynasty Warriors had guns, only more brainless than even that if you can imagine it.
Except in Dynasty Warriors you can stare at the hordes of bad guys and they'll mill around a bit, maybe consider poking you with a stick now and then. Try that in EDF and see what happens.
James
Uh huh.
EDF would be cooler if they reworked it without armor collecting.

Anyway, Gamespot has two new videos up from GDC.
Features:
Fuck yeah!Quote:
3-player online campaign
6-player online survival/horde mode
2-player splitscreen co-op for campaign and survival
Release date right now is July 5th.
Is it wrong for me to be more excited about this than Gears 3?
No. I'd rather kill bugs than hear Dom whine about his wife.
The only thing better is if was coming out sooner.
E3 Trailer:
This thing is a graphical abomination.
Not saying I'm not interested.
I hope it still has those bombs that bounce like crazy for 8 seconds, than either clear the whole stage or kill you.
This is farmed out to some little-known Western dev, right? And no one is worried?
Oh, I didn't know that. Interest = 0 now.
It's EDF. Shouldn't be too hard a game to make. You have lots of big bugs. Then you shoot them and they blow up.
Meh, I don't care who the developer is when it's $40 and has splitscreen. As long as it's not Kojima and there are no hour-long cut-scenes.
I got to have my turrets. Throw down three of those babies to slow down the horde so they can get a rocket to the face.
Also the dev made MUA2. That's talent enough. Sandlot's other games weren't exactly stellar.
I wasn't disappointed by what I played on the show floor. I put some good time into it this morning and it felt solid enough. It's hard to get super-excited by an E3 floor demo, because there's so much space for things to go downhill, but what I played made it feel like the developer understood what they were doing.
James
Damn well right it was!
James
It's the pinochle of great gaming.
I'm stoked for it though, it'll be a good bug hunt FO SHO
I went back to playing some good old EDF tonight. There are many missions on inferno I just can't solo. Damn it.
I gave up playing on Inferno. The last 2 missions are impossible alone.
I can't even do the last level on the level below Inferno.
Inferno is ridiculous even with local support. One weekend a friend and I tried to go through the whole game on Inferno and we gave up about halfway through.
I don't think it is that bad with 2 people. I solo'ed 60% of the Inferno missions, and almost all the hardest one. Once you unlock the Lyzander Z sniper, it makes things a lot easier (5500 points of damage). You can farm weapons on level 46, it is pretty easy on Inferno.
THEN WHY CAN'T YOU FINISH IT? HUH? HUUUUUH???
I just finished last level on Hardest, and going to do it on Inferno. Youtube has the trick to do it, but a couple of levels before that is confounding me (Convergence). Need to unlock ZEXR turrets!
I love EDF. I unlocked ZEXR Turrets (sexy), and it made single player on inferno possible. Crowd control is so much easier with 3 turrets. Whooping bosses with C70 is fucking awesome too. Only 3 more inferno missions to go and I am done and ready for this.
Me and a buddy still have three missions to go on inferno. We have all the weapons but the final one. It feels like we just don't have the sheer armor to survive, especially the final stage when the thing goes nuts.
Hey Melf, check out my gamerscore on EDF. ;)
Did you do it alone or with someone else?
About that video: he just flew over to the mother ship and landed on it? I couldn't tell if he detonated the explosives as he fell or if that's what took down the ship at the end. If it's as easy as flying over a dropping some explosives on it, then I'll try that and see how it goes.
I solo every single mission on all difficulties.
You fly the helicopter into one of the 3 legs, jump out and plant 20 C70's on the edge just like the video. Then you jump down, blow up one set of C70 and survive long enough until the sphere laser thingies come down to the level of the original C70's. Blow up the 2nd set and you are done. As long as you set off the 2nd set of C70's before you die, you can still clear the stage if they kill you afterwards. The animation for the mothership to come down takes forever.
Nice. I'll have to try that out. Thanks for the tip.
The hardest part is surviving long enough after blowing up the penis. It takes forever for the vagina to come out.
Just got home with EDF: Insect Apocalypse. Anyone else's not have instructions, or even a single bit of paper where instructions would normally go?
James
Shit, this is out.
I was going to get this today but had the kids with me. I might pick it up tomorrow.
I had a slip for a download code. There's no manual. Thankfully, they spent the budget on the actual game. Played it splitscreen with a friend and it was pretty incredible. The first few missions are a bit tame, but it doesn't take long before shit starts going crazy. All four playable classes are cool, but I like the slow ass Battle for his 'blow up all the shit around me' ability. Probably would suck for purely single player, but it also supports three player online. In splitscreen, the third is actually a pretty smart AI that has no trouble navigating the destruction, and can revive you if he doesn't get downed himself.
3-player online?
Fuck yeah, I'm getting this.
must get
As in, inside the case itself? Because there wasn't a single scrap of paper included with my copy. I got some weapons pack preorder bonus thing printed on my receipt, but inside the case was just a disk.
I'm really enoying what I've played so far. Nothing but single-player, but once I've got a few missions under me I'm going to see how online multiplayer works. I'm pretty impressed so far, though.
James
If anyone is on tonight, I will be on. Need a break from the past few weeks.
"WE CAN ALWAYS REBUILD NEW DETROIT"
Clearly, this is a foreign publisher.
Yes, D3 Publisher of America is clearly foreign.
I don't even understand why that's funny. Why is making up a fictional future version of Detroit for everyone to play around in and smash up without worrying about anyone getting upset because a) it's Detroit, and b) it's New Detroit, so it's not even real, and now you also don't have any pressure to make it look like actual Detroit, funny at all?
Just got home with mine, best buy had some jet armor pack.

Anyway, just ordered this bad boy with free shipping from Newegg, so I'll see you dudes online in a couple of days.
EDF! EDF!

That's awesome.
Did you play EDF 2017? It's all about the fact that not only can you destroy the buildings of the town you're supposed to be protecting, but you often do in the game for the weakest of excuses, like 'that building is blocking my shot' or 'the lighting would be better if I take down that skycraper.' They're showing fans that this is true to the EDF legacy.
Loving the Tactical armor. I mean sure, the big guy's shield and lightning are nice, and I do love to fly, but the turrets are just too much fun to use.
James
Just finished this on Normal for the PS3, gotta say I was really digging the way shit got interesting towards the end, with hordes of insects coming at you. I was a heavy for just about the entire game, i'll be looking forward to playing it again on a new difficulty and maybe in one of the new suits.
Finally got this bad boy in the mail today!
Who's up for an Inferno co-op run?
If you've got the 360 version, add me to your friends list:

When you get to hell, tell 'em the EDF sent ya'!
Only got to play the first mission on Inferno difficulty so far, but dear god, what an amazing game!
Cars exploding and being tossed everywhere. Buildings crumbling and toppling over.
Bugs climbing around the huge city landscapes, digging up from underneath the asphalt, spitting acid, and chasing after you by the hundreds.
Incredible.
