Not that I am a Cowboys fan like you, but I'm not down on the Garrett hire/promotion. The Cowboys have played better for him to this point, and he doesn't strike me as being over his head. Garrett does know the Xs and Os, which was the downfall for a guy like Mike Singletary who was a motivator only.
Garrett can handle the offense but given how the defense has played, maybe he really needs to hire a (better) defensive coordinator this offseason. Or maybe just getting better personnel-wise at linebacker and safety will make the necessary difference, but a new DC too could be better. Maybe Garrett goes back to the 4-3 defense like Jimmy Johnson had. I think Ware, Ratliff, and Spencer would all transition well plus it could be easier to find linebackers for it?
At the very least I thought you love that Garrett has the Cowboys practicing in pads since he took over.
Btw, now do you agree with me (as I said before the season) that the Cowboys should part ways with Marion Barber? His best days are behind him, they have cheaper and younger options in Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.
Not speaking as a Colts fan, but I don't think I like this move for Houston, even though: (A) I think in a vacuum that getting Wade Phillips as a DC is a great hire; and (B) I believe the numbers show that defenses show a major improvement in Phillips' first year when he takes over.
I don't like it because Mario Williams seems out of place in that scheme, and he's a franchise 4-3 defensive end that I would want to build around.
That's the most important thing, although you could probably add in as a close second that the Texans would now need to find a 3-4 NT. Granted Phillips used more of a 1-gap NT in Jay Ratliff (an excellent player) in Dallas than the traditional 3-4 NT like say Ted Washington who he had in Buffalo, but still.
Then again Bruce Smith did play for Wade Phillips in Buffalo, maybe Mario Williams as a 3-4 DE works out well. We'll see I guess.
(The more teams going to a 3-4 defense, hopefully means more available 4-3 talent for the Colts.)
The Texans owner really likes Kubiak, and he's done a good job with the offense. Although I'm sure Texans fans would point out not a great job with the offense, given their penchants of slow starts and some of the playcalling.
I don't know what the contract/cap situation is with Barber, but I agree that unless he is really affordable, then it's not worth keeping him.
I like that Garrett has made them practice in pads, but it still doesn't sit right with me that he was pass happy as well until Phillips got fired and then he got religion all of a sudden. Now there are many factors, including Romo's injury, but it still smells. If he's going to revert to passing on every down, I don't care if the team is wearing pads or tutus in practice, because that shit isn't football and doesn't work in January.
The irony is that the Cowboys should have promoted Sean Payton and kept Mike Zimmer as the defensive coordinator. Payton has his ring, and Zimmer may get the head coaching job in Cincy.
I guess when you boil it all down, the Jones clan is a poor substitute for a GM, though you really can't argue with the overall talent level of the team.
Cowboys are irrelevant, let's stop wasting time talking about losers.
Cowboys: 6-10
Seahawks: 7-9

They grow some good shit at ESPN HQ. There are 12 elite QBs in the NFL? Seriously? And Brett Favre is in the same category as Vince Young? I don't care how hurt he was this year; that's insane.
thanks for the link to the carolina pick and not the one you INTENDED to link.
Weird. Fixed.
Sometimes ESPN does that too me as well. I cut and paste something and instead it remembers a link I highlighted earlier, instead of the one I am highlighting at the moment.
Also: this article sucks. No wonder I stopped reading ESPN and started to read Pro Football Talk.
