So I recently started using Rosetta Stone for German.
The first lesson was pretty alright. I was able to get through it without many mistakes..but goddamn, lesson 2 makes me feel like they expect too much.
Has anyone used Rosetta Stone to successfully gain a rudimentary understanding of a language? I feel like they're just throwing shit out there and hoping I understand it without any help here on Lesson 2!
One of my favorite things I did was use chinesepod.com for learning some Chinese (Though I need to pick it up again) and putting it on my MP3 player and doing the lessons while in the car. I don't know how Rosetta is though I have it on my computer hah.

The whole point of Rosetta Stone is to immerse you in things you don't understand.
I learned German easily through Rosetta Stone. Lesson 2 was a breeze. Some people just don't have the intellectual capacity to learn a language through the program though
Why the fuck would you waste time learning German? Take that shit back and learn Spanish and/or Mandarin.
I had forgotten my original point, but I've heard great success stories from people who have used both Rosetta Stone and some other form of language learning program.
A buddy of mine went through the entire Korean program. He said it was excellent for vocabulary-building, but light on grammar and structure. Makes a better supplement than a primary teacher, I guess.
Rosetta seems like a pretty good program to me, I mean you get the visual aspect along with audio, which I think would be really helpful. I've used Pimsleur's, (which is just audio) and that on it's own helped me much more than cracking a book open and learning that way.
I suggest mastering each lesson; I like to have it down solid before progressing. I've experienced the same with Pimsleur where all of a sudden there are new words that are thrown in that didn't get a formal explanation, but with a solid understanding of the words that were taught it's not too bad. Just do the lesson over until it makes more sense.
