Looking for Advice on How To Handle a System Sale Gone Wrong

here is the situation.
i sold a complete system with a few games to someone. payment was promptly received and i shipped out the system. i tested it to my best ability since i only had the games i sold with the system.
few days later i get a PM that the package arrived but the buyer is unhappy. he can't get his other games to work on it correctly.
so he demanded a full refund. i told him that i understood his frustration but that's not really fair. what i sold him was working to my knowledge and everything in my "for sale" post was accurate.
i was willing to work with him if he can meet me half way. he refused and wanted a full refund.
i replied that i will refund his money minus the shipping cost. he took this in a way that he would get to keep the system and stuff and not have to send it back to me. i don't think that's fair.
what do you guys think? should i have to refund his whole amount? that's like me paying for the privilege of mailing him shit and have it return to me.

Send one last email saying if he's not happy with the stuff, he can send it all back and you will refund what he paid minus what you paid for shipping. You will accept no other terms aside from those offered, and good day.

What exactly is this guy claiming? Does the console work with the stuff it was sold with?

I've actually had to deal with similar situations.

I hook it up, it works fine.
"Well it's not playing any of my games!"
I ask that he goes home and gets some of his games. He returns. The games are beat to fuck. When I point this out, maybe 50% of the time I'll get the "I've had worse looking games than this before and they worked!" Like the exception is the rule.

of course, i tested before i put it up for sale with the games i sold it with. those were my only games.
it's an NES that had it's 72 pin connector replaced by someone i bought it from a couple of years back. i never really got any more games for it and it sat in my closet. i gave him a controller, light gun, power adapter, and a RF cable. including mario/duck hunt,rygar, and fester's quest.
all working. he said the other games he tried to play, it take him 3-4 times before they work and he tested them on a NES clone system. don't know anything about those, never tried one or had one.

A fucking NES? I warranty all my systems, except those fucking things. I refurb them but all it takes is some asshole to disregard the speech I give when selling one about how it's important to thoroughly clean any game with q-tips and alcohol before using it to fuck the system up again.

Seriously. Tell him if he doesn't send you the money or system you'll maul him horrible things.

I ended up having to give some guy half his money back on a $250 drum that he orginally only paid 100 for. I mean, I made money off of it, but giving someone back $50, still sucks.

I said a lot of stuff in the auction like it was heavily used. It has been used by kids. Had pictures of it where there was rust and scratches on the chrome.

I think the most fair thing you can do (maybe last straw to keep this fucker on the level) is to split the shipping cost if he will ship the system back to you. He should eat his part of shipping.

Why don't you just ignore him and buy a shotgun? Those are easier to purchase than handguns and still get the same message across.

You might tell him to try inserting the NES game but not pushing it down. Sometimes new 72 pin connectors will be so tight the games will work better in the up position than pushed down. My NES is like that, it works 100% of the time in the up position, and only 50% of the time in the down position.

plik is an asshole, he sold me a working version of one of the shittiest console designs ever introduced to the world and it doesn't always work right away. I know it doesn't work because I used a fake version of the system which I got because the real thing is such a piece of shit, and my games totally work on that one all the time.

He wants to feel better about his purchase. If you cared enough (which you obviously do, since you're asking about it) just state what happened, explained that everything was working when you sent it, and he claims that games sometimes take a couple tries to start which is why he wants to return it. Just don't act like him and swear and throw around accusations, the more civil you remain the better it looks.

Honestly plik, I would go into that thread, state your case (without coming across as an asshole) and then ignore everyone else. It's not worth getting into a flame war on NG.com since that won't accomplish anything, but if you at least give your side of the story the more critically thinking members will go "wait, maybe this guy isn't a scamming asshole, he's just trying to protect himself as a seller."

You have to remember, there have been so many people that have scammed users there out of thousands of dollars over the years that the sharks are ready to pounce on any slight hiccup that transaction may have. Several otherwise good sellers have had similar bitchfests thrown at them over relatively small issues that were blown out of proportion.

2)I bought a couple of gba games from plik. He never mentioned one was japanese. I bought them to resell, but now I'm stuck with a game no one will buy. Is it the end of the world? No. But I would have passed had that all been disclosed up front.
3)he backed out of a sale with yoshi after he had yoshi's money because he had a better deal elsewhere after the fact. I'm sorry, but that's just shitty.

None of these are huge issues on their own and none of them make plik a bad guy. But they do kind of point to the fact that he's not the most reliable guy to buy from.

Had something similar happen to me - 3 years ago I ebayed nearly all my consoles and their games. The SNES was a bit worse for wear, but I managed to get all the games I had to work. I did post in the auction that the cart port was grumpy in his old age, but that everything was confirmed working. Auction ended, funds were exchanged, the lot was packaged and mailed. A week later the seller emails saying they can't get any of the games to work. Since they were half in the right, I went ahead and refunded them the average cost of a barebones system. Whatever, I just wanted to get the crap out of my possession and make a few bucks (which I did thanks to the few-dozen games I included with it).

I'm not sure what the point of this story is, sorry.

I have a fucking top-loading NES and that shit still takes 3-4 tries sometimes. Tell that dude to lick your b-hole.

What game is it? Unless it's something text heavy, you should have no trouble selling it.
