gameplay wasn't shown?
You're right. I guess the torch stuff was gameplay. It clearly made an impression on me.
I thought it was one of the only things MS showed that looked good. I'll pick it up for the PC if previews seem like it develops some cool environments to explore.
Oh, I'm definitely buying it on PC. That's why the 2012 was so disappointing. I think I put up a mental block when games I know I am buying get shown so I don't ruin anything. I didn't digest any of the ME3 footage either.
Watched the demo in the 360 briefing and initially liked the presentation but quickly realized that it's very much like an advanced Dragon's Lair with added interactivity. You have to basically do QTEs once you a trigger a puzzle or you have to start over. (the latter TBC). Doesn't sound like it'll be much fun unless there is more to the game than what has been shown.
I predict it'll flop.
Even with an open world, their HUD design and gameplay seems to be centered around figuring out where the next story scene is, how to trigger the next QTE and advance. An open world just annoys you by making you run around to get to that point.
If there was more to it, you'd figure they would be showing it an E3 demo which is meant to wow people. I felt bored halfway through the demo and almost stopped watching the vid.
I agree with Shou. If there was labia-out action to be had they probably would be leading with it. But it's still early - Fall 2012 is MORE than a year away. I can't see any game like Tomb Raider surviving with QTEs. QTEs in and of themselves in a game are almost a bad oman. I have a sneaking suspicion they're going to try and make this Tomb Raider: Cool Like Uncharted.
That could be a good thing, though.
It doesn't sound much like Uncharted from what I've read. Or Tomb Raider for that matter.
They've said that this game is going to have more complex puzzles than previous Tomb Raiders and have a much heavier focus on combat. What we saw in that video showed none of what we've been told are the main gameplay elements of the game, not to mention the exploration and resource gathering that are also supposed to be major elements. It's flat-out foolish to try to judge the rest of the game based on that.
It looks like a linear, cinematic intro to a game that reveals very little about how the rest of the game plays. The game might suck, don't get me wrong, but it's not going to suck because it consists entirely of QTEs and linear hallways. That's just stupid.
