We've reached the point where I am barely making/missing the recommended, so an upgrade is now imminent. I'll probably wait for the summer when new releases dry up.
Wait until Q4 and get the 700 series cards.
That never seemed smart to me. Buying the newest card out is always gross overkill. It's better to buy a generation behind. You'll save a ton of money, and you're not really sacrificing anything. However, the 700s coming out should impact the prices on the 600s, so maybe waiting longer is better. That will become painful though.
I buy a new card and sell my old one for half the price.
Every year I upgrade and I'm spending the same amount every two years as anyone who skips generations. I find there's tos of value being at the current generation, while it's not a necessity it's always nice to get the better performance as early as possible, especially the way I do it.
I'm going to get a 770 for an effective $250. Fuck all.
Actually I should amend that and say that I'm going to spend $500 on the card but that will all be Amazon credit from $150 in purchases that I traded in for triple what I bought them for and then I'm going to sell my old card for $250. So I'll actually come out $100 ahead this year. Your milage may vary and will.
There's enough rationalizing in those posts to justify the purchase of a Monster cable.
Rationalizing my ass.
I buy things from other sources and trade them in on Amazon so everything I buy from there I'm getting for only about 1/3 the actual investment. I've also sold the last three cards I've upgraded from for half the price of the new card. Haters gonna hate.
Amazon doesn't only sell video cards. You're wasting money no matter how you choose to convince yourself that you're saving it.
Keep on doing your thing if it makes you happy, but don't lie about how much you're actually spending.
