Just announced on the VGAs. omgs
Decent or Ascent? In before Deadly Accent though.
Premonition.
test
It's a good thing Prototype 2 was at the VGAs to keep this from being the least interesting announcement of the show. :chick:
edit: I forgot about Forza 4. SSX is moving on up!
Barfffffff dark & dreary real life locations
SSX courses should look like riced-out pinball machines.
dark and gritty SSX yea I'll pass.
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/vg...-deadly/708355
What the fuck is this.
I wonder what happened. The other games were so good.
Reboots are totally in!
That doesn't look like SSX to me, even in a reboot kind of way. The wingsuit idea is kinda interesting, maybe, but everything else looks like a game I don't care to play. EA had better have some better footage availalbe later on, and by "better" I mean "looking liks SSX".
James
I really, really, really love me some SSX.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until I see some game play trailers.
after actually watching the trailer it looks more like Medal of Honor: White Ops to me.
What the fuck is this? Needs more Run DMC (and Zoe) stat.
At least Elise is there!
...you know, the helicopter. Not jokes.
There was a rumor about this game ~two weeks ago that talked about this garbage reboot. It also mentioned how the old control scheme has been replaced by something that uses the right-stick to trick, like Skate. So yeah, no interest at all.
Modern Snowfare
Expected the showboarder to whip out a gun.
This shit looks ass.
What a fucking joke. Been waiting what, 6 years for fucking SSX and we get this crap.
What an abortion. This game would be hot shit if they kept the artstyle they established with the old games and added crazy wing suit stuff. I dont want ALL my games to look like they just came out of my asshole.
* judges game entirely based on teaser announcement trailer *
Well, it gives an idea of the general art direction, and I don't think it's presumptuous to extrapolate that you probably won't be cruising through neon cities and theme parks and shit from "we're recreating real-life mountains".
Glad to see I'm not the only one wondering WTF after that trailer.
Holy christ, calm down it's a teaser trailer. There's not even a second of the actual game shown. The rumors are that this is being made by the Skate team and they fucking rule. I want a new SSX so bad I'm totally looking forward to this. SSX 4 wasn't really good, leaving 3 to be the best snowboarding game released which is really insane. Amped was always blah, 1080 2 was boring, Stoked wasn't fun and Shaun White ended up being a disaster (how that happened is beyond me).
PS- Tricky had some TERRIBLE courses.. Keep that pinball shit out of snowboarding games.
Wrong. If I wanted real I'd play shaun white, or amped or some other shit. (I haven't played either).
I want SSX to be some over the top batshit insane pinball, fake mountain, theme park retard business.
The levels could end up not being all bright and nuts (or they could be, who knows) but in that trailer I saw a bullshit impossible flip like the old days and then I saw glider wings come out when the rider went off the cliff.
I doubt this game with be realistic by any means; if that trailer is accurate it will be arcade "batshit insane pinball" with at worst realistic mountain that you fucking cliff dive down.
After watching this trailer how could anyone think it's going to be realistic? 3 had the perfect mix of wild course design while still remaining somewhat grounded in reality. Monstrous mountain courses with crazy cliffs, embankments and stuff. Tricky had that bullshit level with fans that blew you up into rails hanging 100 feet in the air.
And you don't want to play the other games I mentioned, they're busted.
If they ditch the Cool Boarders 1 & 2 control scheme (hold jump and the direction you want to spin/flip FOREVER and release to OMFGCRAZY FLIPS) I'm going to be so very disappointed.
Dark Summit says Wat?
First of all, one character from a trailer. Second, he's wearing a yellow jacket and goggles in blizzard. How is that McBrofist? If anything he looks like Mac:
http://images.ea.com/easportsbigonli.../money_mac.jpg
Seriously, it's like you guys never played these games.
I honestly can't tell if you're just trolling the entire thread.
I'm not.
I played the living fuck out of Tricky and 3. I'm familiar with the levels and all the characters, but I feel like everyone here is not. I watched that trailer again, and I don't get how such generalized opinions about the direction of the game are being made when the character looks like Mac, the area looks like Gravitude in a blizzard and the one trick it showed was completely impossible in real life. Then the guy jumps off a cliff with glider wings.
Then everyone comes in calls it gritty and assumes it could be nothing like the previous games. It makes no sense to me, it seemed like a trailer which picked a specific character and mountain look for it's audience, but those things aren't as out of place in SSX as everyone is claiming, they're just less common than the bright areas and nutso outfits. I have faith those things will return as well.
Pretend you want to build a trailer for Spike based around the last minute of this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErwePeeQewg
You get exactly what we watched, right down to the outfit. You all need to stop fronting.
It's not Gravitude though, it's the Himalayas, and it's not Mac, it is some dew drinking fag in a squirrel suit. The story is about how these guys are trying to be the first to scale these mountains.
I'm not seeing the "mountain dew" RIGHTEOUS BRO! mentality you think you see in that trailer. The character is not dressed abnormally for what and where he's doing it. Who knows what they have planned for the gliding (probably just making even bigger gaps). Oh no! It's gray with no neon lights in sight! Big surprise when it's on top of a mountain in a blizzard. Just like many of the tracks in the previous games. I don't understand the knee jerk reactions going on. Fuck, SSX 4 had skiing in it, that's more of a WTF than anything seen in this trailer.
Maybe you missed that they named the fucking helicopter Elise. This sort of thing is common in reboots. Toss a bone to the original fans, fuck around with everything else to bring in the mouthbreathers.
If they don't fuck with the controls and if we get anything half as awesome as Mercury City Meltdown, I'll be glad to admit I was wrong.
..but you're still out of your mind if you think that trailer evokes SSX in any real way.
Everyone hated On Tour.
HAHAHAHA that fucking trailer! That shit is HILARIOUS!
SSX: Black Ops. Holy shit they are going to ruin this SO hard.
Mzo gets it.
Not to be too pedantic, but you can't scale much of anything in a helicopter. It kind of defeats the concept of scaling.
James
Who cares what "story" there is in a snowboarding game?
If you guys want to play a crazy insane snowboarding game, go dig up Amped 3 out of a bargain bin. It's great.
I've only really really liked 3 snoboarding games.
1080, SSX Trcky, and Amped 3. Anyone who hates on Amped 3 is a jizz gargling cock sucker.
Cool Boarders had a few good entries too.
That thread was the best.
It really was.
I'm not too crazy about the premise of the game so far or the whole story angle but as long as it's as fun as the previous SSX games (SSX Tricky/SSX3) and has some fun characters in them then cool.
It won't be.
A yeti has kidnapped the president's daughter. Are you a bad enough dude to save her?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA at the motherfuckers trippin' about a fuckin' teaser. I can MAYBE understand complaining about the art direction, maybe. Seriously though? It seems like you guys just like complaining about shit.
http://pwned.com/gamecovers/playstat...y_Alliance.jpg
PS: On the plus side, it's being developed by EA Canada.
:)
So we learned that soundtrack makes everything.
I'm just gonna download the tricky soundtrack and play it over this game then.
Let's get back to talking about how every game story should be Bad Dudes.
Not even just video-games.
Like, Monopoly and Clue. Fuckin' Connect Four.
New deets courtesy of EGM:
Summary
* Rewind Feature
* 17 regions spread across the whole globe, each mountain ridable in all their 360º degrees of slopes, Stoked style. They're aiming for 70 open mountains. Mountains are generated automatically by the game, including some from topographic data like Google Earth. The producer talks about his programmer asking him to name any mountain, the producer said "Everest", the tech guy plugs that info into the mountain building program (dubbed "Mountain Man), and the program spit out a 100,000+ polygon rendered mountain.
* Regions confirmed so far: Siberia, Himalayas (split into two mountains it would seem, for now), Kilimanjaro, Siberia, Caucasus, The Alps.
* Each mountain is tailored to one kind of danger. Thin air, ice, temperature, will each be the main danger of one mountain range.
* The gear you purchase/earn will be important, each piece may be better to a certain condition/danger.
* Elise is returning. Start guessing who the guy in the trailer is (or it could be a new fella...)
* There will be tracks in the game. They have natural shortcuts (this can mean the tracks could have the feel we're used them to have, the ramps, turns, etc, etc), some of the runs are pinched together, some others intersect.
rewind feature. google earth mountains. buying gear to overcome danger.
yeah, totally, this will absolutely be as good as the original SSX games and warrants absolutely no skepticism at all.
Sounds like it'll be buggy as a motherfucker at best, and suffer greatly for lack of design.
I hate this game already.
In other news, I dug out the old games and they're still just as fuckawesome as before.
I wish I hadn't lost my copy of Tricky. SSX3 just isn't as good.
Oh boy, Metroid Borders.Quote:

Yeah, nothing revealed has me excited for this game. I almost want to delete this thread and let somebody else start it up lol.
i'm not even remotely excited about any of the news so far but I still think that EA Canada will pull off a good game.
I like the screen in EGM that shows a military looking base with barbed wire fences and shit. EA already has Dead Space 2, Shadows of the Damned, Mass Effect 3, and The Old Republic this year, so really what were the odds of five promising games?
I only count 2 there. :)
ME2 is yesterday's news. $10 for PC/360.
Oops. You know what I meant.
No it wasn't. It was okay, at best.
I loved that game. Some of the mechanics were crap but it was pretty atmospheric
I tried to enjoy it, but it was just pretty at the time and played like garbage. But it had Mike Patton so I was able to suffer through.
Why are they touting an automated mountain builder as a good thing? I want courses laid out for awesomeness, not randomness.
That's not how it works. It's generating the mountains based on google maps, but then the devs go in and add courses and things to those mountains. It's a way of quickly generating the base geometry of the level and allowing them to spend more time on fine tuning the courses. It's actually a plus for the game.
Yeah I don't get how anyone is complaining about that, it sounds amazing.
They take the actual real mountain and then carve an SSX course into it, what part of that doesn't sound awesome?
yeah that's how i read it.
Are you kidding? Procedurally generated courses in a racing game is a terrible idea, touchups or no. Remember Fuel?
Do you honestly think that these guys can put the same kind of care that they put into previous SSX games into a game that's ~10 times bigger?
I haven't read this article yet but I've seen summaries. This one is pretty telling:

BTW does anyone remember Downhill Domination? Kind of like SSX with bikes... I thought it was rad.
Yeah Downhill Domination was good stuff aside from the stereotypical "extreme sports" nu-metal soundtrack.
I think it was made by the guys who made Twisted Metal.
Right up there with Dave Mirra BMX and Aggressive Inline as far as my favorite "non franchise" extreme sports games go.
Who knows?
They haven't fucked up yet. Plenty of developers have absolutely got ambitious projects right and other developers who suck randomly make a gem. I'd be stupid to instantly assume that a snowboarding franchise with a near perfect record wasn't capable of delivering. At the same time, if they blow it, I won't be shocked since it is a very difficult under taking.
I remember playing Aggressive Inline and thinking it was pretty fun.
I liked FUEL. Maybe I have brain damage.
Stolen outright from GAF:
The March 2011 Official X-box Magazine came out a few days ago with an article on SSX DD.
Creative director Sean Batty says everyone who sees SSX Tricky and SSX 3 thinks they are Wii games. He says that there are 10 "gamer types" for video games including "Explorers" who love big open worlds, "Managers" who love bartering and trading goods, and "Monsters" who mess people up. He says World of Warcraft hits nine of these types, and SSX DD currently hits 8, which is 2 more than SSX 3.
Summary of concrete features:
* Right now, the game is split into 3 main modes. Campaign - where you tackle the 9 Deadly Descents, Explore, and Live Events. Xbox magazine seems to think this last option is for online events.
* Plot: 3 returning characters including Zoe Payne get tired of the typical snowboard competition scene and form the SSX corporation to tackle the 9 deadliest mountains around the world. Some old characters join in for the challenge, but one drops out to race to get all 9 mountains done before the others. You step in as the new character "Jack", who is featured in all the screenshots.
* Rewind feature is confirmed, though there will be some sort of penalty for using it
* Batty says the danger element bridges the gap to an action-adventure game.
* In-game equipment like ice axes will be able to be powered up through an RPG-type power-up system and that overusing them will incur an in-game penalty. He says you won't be able to just 'fly through' a level.
* 200-300 tracks through 9 peaks. I would say "tracks" are more like "paths" than tracks in the old way of thinking.
* Expect Split/Second-type set pieces on every mountain, but they are not scripted events.
* You pick the tracks you race through a "Google Earth" type interface, which you can zoom in and out and pick which path you'd like the helicopter to drop you on.
* Now the doozy - Batty says they've simplified the process to do tricks from "nine inputs down to two". According to X-box magazine, they watched as he used the two analog sticks for the trick inputs: the left stick jumps and does spins, and sweeping motions with the right stick do tricks. Looks like some sort of Skate mechanic will make it through to the game. I have a strong hunch that Uber tricks will not make it into the game.
* Batty says he's got a unique way of including the score-multiplier feature from the old games without resorting to large neon-colored snowflakes that ruin the feeling of reality.
* Finally, it seems like it might be a 2012 release. Batty mentions that they have 15-months of development left on the game.
And finally, X-box magazine says that while fans are wondering "Why So Serious?" with SSX, they wonder if the fans shouldn't give EA the benefit of the doubt. After all, Heath Ledger as the Joker worked out well, didn't it?
Reading that made me really sad.
