that is for god damn sure
I liked SotN, but I'd take almost all of these games in a heartbeat.

26. Star Fox 64 3D (3DS)
Had this not been a remake, it would be exactly what the 3DS needs. As it stands, it's a fantastic update to what might be the best game on the Nintendo 64 and certainly one of the top five. As I've said 100 times, the 3DS is made for racers and rail shooters, and this is by far the best example of either on the system so far. I'm extremely excited for Super Mario Land 3D and Mario Kart 7, but at least Star Fox gave me a reason to take Strange Journey out of my 3DS in favor of a native game. And I got to shoot Falco in the ass a few more times.

27. X-Men (iOS)
This is not the best example of the genre to begin with, but when you mix that with touch controls that cause you to turn the wrong way fairly often, it loses a little more luster. That said, it held my interest long enough to finish the game and get half the achievements. I think I got hosed out of the one for not jumping on level 4 due to in inadvertent touch of the "button." The good news is that my $0.99 "investment" quenched any thirst I had for playing this, so I don't need the $10 or $15 PSN version. So that's some value.

37. Gears of War 3

Played on Hardcore. I dunno. Starts off shitty, fighting the lambent ain't fun. Gets better. Has some dumb sequences, but I liked some of the bosses. UE3 has come a long way this gen.
Have you played mp at all, Tain?
Yeah Epic went overboard on the lambent this go 'round.
Shooting stuff that explodes gets old quick.
I haven't played MP yet.
Resistance 3.
Very good, not great. The only reason it's not ranked higher for me is because it's being compared to Resistance 2. 2 is my favorite FPS.
28. Altered Beast (PSN)
The more I play this game over the years, the less I understand why I was willing to actually put lots of quarters into it at a hockey rink in St. Louis longer ago than I'd like to admit. The attacks and rigidity of the controls are so damn frustrating. I will admit that "Wise fwom your gwave!" and "Welcome to your doom!" still bring a slight smile to my face though.

I had never 1cc'd this one like Espgaluda II and DDP:R, mostly because the vertical shooters just work better on the platform than the horizontal ones. That's largely because of the way you hold the device. The most practical way to play the horizontals is with your thumb, but you lose a lot of dexterity that way. So I just my index finger, which a couple of times caused me to take a hit by blocking part of the screen. I still love this series though. Here's hoping the original Vita Cave game is a sequel.
