20) Last Resort (Arcade) 1st credit score 423000, Default Neo-Geo MVS settings
A couple continues were used in the final quarter of the game, but credit feeding guarantees nothing because there are checkpoints. Stage 1's BGM Jack To The Metro sounds like it would've fit Team Japan's stage in KOF'94- cool stuff. Stages 1 & 2 are in a Neo-Tokyo style city straight out of Akira, and enemies look more robotic than R-Type Gigeresque. The G subweapon blazes over the ground like R-Type II's scatter bomb when powered up.
Your satellite can be rotated around the ship and locked in place. The charge shot sends the satellite on a kamikaze run instead of shooting a large fireball. LR's 5 stages must be cleared twice to finish it. There is a decent challenge but the difficulty is a step below R-Type. LR's developers include some former Irem employees.
21. Crysis 2 - Veteran difficulty, not hard at all. This was an odd one, coming from the original. First of all, the story is total garbage - I liked the first game's, because it was simple and straightforward, but this game got into some Metal Gear Solid 2 territory except twice as retarded and not nearly as fun.
Second of all, it was like 2 games in one. I really enjoyed the sections where you had to go from A to B and figure out how to get there - just like the original. The combat is good here, things felt more dynamic. But then the game also had a bunch of levels, especially in the middle, where it was just super linear and scripted, like Call of Duty. The combat was very repetitive here because almost every encounter was set up the same.
And this is probably the best looking game on the 360.
Raiden Fighters - 1CC with the Judge Spear Slave.
I only know of two Miclus locations so my end score was like 36 mil. Meh.
Tonight I was using Boss Rush mode for initial practice and spent 30 minutes dying in all sorts of wonderfully stupid ways. I can't tell you how many times I died by going backwards into stuff that I just previously dodged to the side. Started a normal game to finish my hour session and ended on the good note. On this particular run the only time I died was at the moment when the final boss was blowing up.
Finally.
A lot of Miclus unlocks and bonuses in general are counter-intuitive to 1CCing. Playing for score and playing for survival are parallel paths, unfortunately. Still a really fun game, though. I think I was in the top 20 at one point.
Are all three games like that?
Jet is less so, but yeah, pretty much.

Platinum #17. Really enjoyed it. Pretty sweet use of the Unreal engine with some ambient lighting and clutter all over the place. I thought the Game Over taunts by Batman's arch enemies would get annoying, but aside from creepy Scarecrow, they were all pretty cool (I lost a few times on purpose against Poison Ivy, dat assssssss). The sometimes off hit-detection for a final combo blow to enemies in slow-mo isn't as bad as people say it is, if anything, it's hilarious. Especially seeing what kind of contortionists for bodies Blackgate prisonmates result in. Pretty smart uses of nearly all of WayneTech's gadgets and Detective Mode, maybe if triggering it didn't give off a huge white flash each time, I would have liked it a bit more. Wish there were more Metroid Prime style scanning clues, because that was great.
I really enjoyed finding all the Riddles and Hard mode wasn't really that bad at all, save from one fight with two Titans. It's crazy how in Hard it takes some 15 to 20 hits to wittle down a third of their blocks of health when Normal mode depletes them in one shot. Challenges were pretty easy. All the Arkham City hype made me clam up and finally play this, so I'm glad I did. :)
42. Rage

This could have been great. It gets so many basic things right. Fast movement, made faster if you want to strafe jump all over the place. Fast enemy movement with interesting animations. Cool guns with a ton of different ammo types to play with. Cool toy sub-weapons to play with. An overworld filled with things to do that you can just about completely avoid, if you choose to. And the visuals! Sure, the textures are nasty up close, but I can't think of another first person shooter where every shitty little room and outdoor nook is visually memorable. It's really clear as to why this game took so long.
But, for whatever reason, we are given regenerating health, instant right-where-you-died retries (with bonus damage dealt to nearby enemies) in the form of defibrillator charges, and no-choice-but-to-use-them quicksaves. Do we really need all of this? Couldn't id have at least peppered the hostile areas with reasonable checkpoints? Do we really need regenerating health with the defibrillator's second and third chances? The forgiving combo dampens everything a bit.
30. Daytona USA (PSN)
It's hard to ever call this game "completed," but I got all the trophies. I am both surprised and elated that we got a perfect port in 2011. The fact that Sega must have access to the license again gives me hope that the sequel may finally come home as well. I miss Epona from the Saturn version, but maybe he's hiding in here somewhere. I hate this rating, but given that this game has remained peerless for almost 20 years (since the best year ever for gaming: 1993), it's as good as any game to give a...
