Although there is no universally accepted definition
of “food deserts,” one way to approach the concept
is to begin with access, or the degree to which
individuals live within close proximity to a large
supermarket or supercenter. Many perceive such
food establishments as offering consumers a wider
array of food choices at relatively lower costs
If you define it as that, of course we have food deserts. Small towns aren't going to have supermarkets or supercenters. They just have grocery stores. On page 3, it has the county I grew up in as lacking access to a supermarket. I could get fresh food at the grocery down the street, 3 minutes walking. I could then walk another minute up the street and get canned vegetables at 50% off at the bent/dent. I could hop in my car and drive north for 28 minutes for 3 normal groceries and a supercenter. I could drive east for 20 minutes and go to a supermarket. I could drive west 10 minutes and find more grocery stores and then another 20 and find a few more and a supercenter.
