So, XBLIG? I'll take it, but XBLA would be better.Quote:

I don't know. I want to be excited for this, but no one currently making beat-em-ups has any handle on what made the old ones good (the few that were).
I am no more excited for this than the Hawaii Five-O TV show, or any other remake/reboot of some old ass shit.
Admittedly, the blame isn't entirely the devs' to bear. We, the consumers, can't tell a good beat-em-up from a bad, either. No one gave a shit about Final Fight being ported to XBLA, but echoes of the shrieking orgasms provoked by the X-Men XBLA announcement can still be heard when the wind is still. And there are plenty, plenty of otherwise reasonable people who think Scott Pilgrim is a good game. As long as we keep esuriently gobbling up the Castle Crashers and the Shanks, what incentive are we giving developers to craft the next Captain Commando?
ARBM, aesthetics are more important than gameplay. I'm surprised you are surprised by this.
That still doesn't explain people championing Konami's '90s beat-em-ups over Capcom's.
X-Men has Wolverine. Final Fight has cross dressers and a mayor.
Scott Pilgrim delivered exactly what I wanted out of it at the time, so it's all good. Great presentation, fun punchings, good local multiplayer (get friends, lol).
I'd hazard to say you can throw every single 90s beat-em-up out except for AvP and be doing quite well for yourself. Beat-Em-Up Fatigue is always gonna hit around level 4, and who the hell cares after that? Food's ready, go back to your table and eat dinner.
Most of these games are just a tour through a little made-up world where you lose health until you die and have to pay a quarter to see more of the made-up world. The aesthetics are pretty much the Main Thing. Generally they're as much of a game as the "Universe of Energy" ride at Epcot, just with button pushing to make the background go by.
Yeah, this doesn't really have any chance of being great. I'd expect better than something like Scott Pilgrim, but I'm honestly not that crazy about the original RCR in the first place.
i haven't even gotten to stage 4 in Final Fight not quarter jammin' mode, game is rough.Quote:
