I avoided skinny jeans forever because I thought they looked retarded on girls with wide hips, but I own a few now. I'm not really into guys wearing skinny jeans though, unless that's the style they've worn their whole life.

I find skinny jeans on guys really disturbing. I like them in baggy, but not JNCO style-doubles-as-a-parachute type baggy.
For myself, I like the boot-cut skinny jeans. I hate all forms of Women's flare jeans..and hip-huggers/low riders. Asscrack was not meant to fall out for either gender imo.
