I'm all for underdogs. If they go far, I will root for them.
All-star game joke: Oh well, the American League lost. It just means the Jays will have to win the Series in Pittsburgh.

I <3 Cole Hammered.
The Phillies are dead, Jon Niese (WTF) killed them.
I'd rep you if I could :p
The Mets have a strange offense this year. They have a lot of contact hitters in the lineup who can send a game down hill pretty quickly or they can completely tank. While I don't think it unreasonable for them to be "competitive" for the remainder of the season, they're stuck in a situation where possibly the two best teams in baseball share a division and it's nearly a given that both will be in the playoffs.
Edit: I'm also glad Yoshi decided to come out to make a post about Hamels and about the Mets. Maybe instead of being a Yankee and Philadelphia hater, he should post in the thread more often about baseball in general. All of us used to have a lot more discussion in these threads in years past and most of us are still here.
Part of the problem is that I watch most of the Mets games in bed in my Roku, since I have to be up in the morning. So I can't post when the thoughts are fresh like I would with football, for example. I'm willing to try to talk more in addition to being a Yankee and Philadelphia hater though.
The Mets have scored more runs than the Phils AND the Braves, but have given up 80-90 more to their opponents. It seems like the beginnings of a decent team. They're actually entertaining to watch and Collins seems like a decent manager. It's more than I expected this year, honestly.
I just hope Alderson doesn't go by the same whack-a-mole philosophy as Minaya, trying to fix last year's problems every off-season without a long-term plan.
I'd be insane to think they had a chance of the playoffs this year.
It's possible. The Phillies and the Braves would likely have to hit some bumps though. If the Mets didn't have all the injuries and Johan was back sooner rather than later the season may have turned out much different for them. I personally miss 2005-2008 when it was a big deal for the Phillies and Mets to play each other and when every game may have meant something, such intensity is good for the game. Come to think of it...the NL East could be a very tight race between all five teams in the next 1-3 years.
This Rays-Red Sox game is brutal. 16th inning and each team only has 3 hits and no runs scored. I don't know if I'm going to stay up to finish this one.
