You're just dead wrong. The Wii U barely has any effect at all on the next generation. They're competing with each other, and they both want to be out first.
And how does it mean nothing when all of the profits for consoles that don't rely on seven year-old technology come from software sales?
I'm sorry, but the wii u is competing with the 360, ps3 and to an extant 3DS.
When the new systems launch, wii u will be occupying the same space as the wii did, but without bowling to get non gamers to buy it.
We can't blame Reggie for this, but apparently Nintendo of Europe is clueless too.
Tanking sales is another good motivator. Sales tanked in 2012. Imagine if Apple announced they sold 25% less cell phones than they did 2011, with no plan to release any new hardware. They would get destroyed.Quote:

You could argue that we already know there's a tangible desperation for new consoles, but we're "core" players on a videogame message board. Company execs go by balance sheets, and both Sony and MS are doing very well with their current hardware. MS shareholders are exerting pressure to do something to jumpstart things, which is why I think it's more likely we see a new Xbox. Sony's got it's head way up it's ass.
That analogy is flawed, because cell phones get updated annually under normal circumstances and 2012 isn't over yet. We're living in weird economic times, and these companies do attribute a good portion of those lost sales to economic uncertainty. I don't disagree that new consoles should come out, I'm just looking at it from the corporate perspective.Quote:

Yes, the PS2 outsold pretty much everything but the Wii for most of 2006, and some of 2007(well in the PS3's case most of 2007). Idiots thinking there was going to be 1 million Wii's on North American shelves to out sell the 360 during black friday are well, idiots. This is nothing new. Hell people will probably forget the months when the GBA was outselling the PS3 back when it first came out, or the fact that the GBA was outselling the DS on it's second holiday out.
