To any of you considering a wii u, the new skylander game is really freaking good.
I liked Spyro's Adventure a lot. It was big, colorful, challenging if you wanted it to be, and kept me intersted throughout the whole game.
Giants sucked dicks. It was short, and it felt more like a quick and dirty expansion (from Activision? NO WAY!).
It was because of Giants that I became interested in Disney Infinity. I had planned on skipping Swap Force altogether this year.
Then I got Infinity, and though I enjoyed it at first, the lack of real goals (let's have a million collectables, but no way to track if you've found everything or not) and challenge (baby mode is the only mode? GREAT!) were really disappointing. I thought the Toy Box (world building mode, basically) would be the best part (It's not!).
So anyway, I was out and about when Swap Force launched, and decided fuck it, I'll get it. I had paid so little attention to it, that I had no idea Toys For Bob wasn't involved until I fired it up and the Vicarious Visions logo popped up. As little faith as I had in the game already, seeing VV's name didn't help any. I've always found them to be...lacking as a developer.
They must have eaten their Wheaties though, because SwapForce is really really quite very excellent. The game is long without feeling like it's dragging or padded, there's ton of secrets, and the levels are nicely designed. From looking around the intranets, it looks like this is the least talked about iteration, but it's really the best one.
The dumb toys are fun to collect too! (and often on sale. I've complete sets for both Spyro and Giants, very, very rarely ever paid full price for a figure.
