Quit pouting. You put this upon yourself with this phrasing -
This isn't everyone here, and you know this. I play games for score every day. I'm not the only person who does. I sure as hell don't care about or require a coat of Nintendo paint on the product to do so. The problem isn't that NintendoLand is a minigame collection. The problem is that, on the basis of its shallowness, it doesn't seem to be a good minigame collection.
Then you say this:
So which is it? NintendoLand is made for people who play minigames, yet it needs time to be figured out and enjoyed? These two statements contradict each other.
My opinion is most people who fit the profile these days are busy playing the latest ripoff of Worms/gorilla.bas or Panel de Pon on their phone.
Yoshi, dog$ and joust live in an alternate reality where more people talk about how fun Nintendo games are than people complain about how "fun" Nintendo games are.
I TYPED THIS, HIT "PREVIEW POST" AND SURE ENOUGH, THERE'S DOG$
Anyway, go post on neogaf about it please. I hear that for every one person that posts something positive about Nintendo, 10 more get their rectums so backed up about it that they have to make three more posts about it. You guys should fit right in with the rest of the people trying to scream over each other.
You're like a little magic unicorn.
I played Nintendo Land in a real room with FIVE other physical entities whose company I regularly enjoy. I did not like Nintendo Land.
I might like the game more if it weren't trapped in the Mii/Wii Sports aesthetic that I find completely reprehensible. And using the Wiimote dpad for movement in a 3D environment still sucks. Hell, the Wiimote alone without a nunchuk as a gaming devide on the whole still sucks. Glad they brought that over, thanks.
Ray: Egon, Egon! The new console launch is upon us and the gamers are flipping out on each other!
Egon: I know, Ray, I lurk Neogaf. I believe the drastically increased friction between these heightened and highly polarized opinions results in an invisible discharge of psychomagnotheric ether which is no less powerful than its slime form. Even worse, the vitriol is bleeding over into all other gaming discusssions.
Ray: Well, what should we do?
Egon: Sing Kumbaya?
Nintendo Land is basically the interactive instruction manual for the current Nintendo zeitgeist. It serves that purpose rather well. If you don't know shit about how to use the Wii U's Game Pad, or even the Wii Remotes from the Wii, Nintendo Land is there to hold your hand through the whole process and give an example of how every feature their hardware offers can be utilized effectively. In that regard, it succeeds.
It should not be a standalone game. It should have been a baseline pack-in or even a pre-installed app, NOT a bullet point or a separate product.
Obviously my post was unclear.
I know that people are different and wonderful creatures. I never meant to lump the entirety of the gaming population under a terrible generalization. My original point was that there are tons of games to play these days, and I wrote (what I intended to be obviously overly-generalized) statements in my post to support that point. The point was missed. Exaggerated statements were taken seriously. Personalities were offended.
I wrote a flippant reply, to what was a flippant reply. I should have explained then that my statements were not serious.
Here, I'll write the really boring version of my point that everyone can ignore:
"I THINK that anyone who plays games regularly has an abundance of games that they could play in many mediums, and NL does not warrant time for MOST people. This, IMO, is contributing to its lack of success.
I THINK that MOST gamers these days are used to games giving them clear goals, and virtual high fives as they play, to make them feel accomplished. I THINK MOST do not care about the virtual high fives from NL, so its popularity is not benefiting from this.
I THINK certain types of people, who like minigames, would like NL.
I THINK some people, in a vacuum, would never like NL.
I THINK NL might suck because I played it once and have not gone back to it, but I did not give it any time at all and I was playing by myself."
Does that work?
Lets bitch about new consoles instead, this shit is tired.
The Wii U lineup sucks slightly less than the PS4 and Xbox One lineups this fall.
