Hideous!
So 36 of those kinds of guys. Women were much better on the whole.
Needs more gradients.
That shit makes me feel so good about myself.
I'm not making excuses. I'm making statements based on reality. You're doing more of what everyone else in this thread has done, saying "you made your choice, now deal with it."
Your mindset is a relatively new one. You're lucky you had the sense to see stuff coming and act in kind. This whole idea that people need to constantly improve their skills and be competitive is new. You probably don't realize this, because you've been thinking this way for years, but it is. 20, 30 years ago, a large percentage of people expected to be able to work at one place until they died. The ideal was that if you were dumb, you got a blue collar job and worked it until you retired. If you were smart you worked a white collar job until you retired. Only the top tier professionals kept improving their skills and switching employers. Crap, two generations ago it was common for even an engineer to just retire if new tech came along.
Why am I even repeating this? We've had this talk. Everyone here has talked about how common this perspective is. The whole get married thing, how you gotta have kids to be happy, the sooner the better, blah blah blah.
It is only really in the past 10-15 years that people are figuring out this is a lie. I don't know why you'd begrudge people for not knowing something when the opposite has been shoved in their face for most of their natural life. And it was true for our grandparents and those that came before.
Oh, let me apologize. I'm sorry I shared my experience with you and tried to give you some advice. I should have known you didn't need it and had chosen an excellent program. I'm sure it is great and you will figure out how to program "augmented reality where cameras can scan real things and use that information to help people (like kinect). I will be able to scan a store shop and see all of the deals available in the store or around town for the same goods" in 3 or 4 months.
Pardon my naivety good sir.
I'm on a different computer today.
You probably know who your dad is too, but we still call you a bastard.
Shame, those overused words.
Whether or not they knew or were expected to know is irrelevant. This is the world we live in today. They are going to have to do their part to keep up or fall behind. I think the government should be helping them find those leads in an honest way (Canada's government has a job skills re-education program that was started at the beginning of the recession to help newly unemployed get back to work if they wanted to switch to a more in-demand career). To me that's useful charity because it creates opportunity for those willing to work for it.
To me your excuse is basically the old racist person argument. "They were raised that way!" is not REALLY an excuse for it.
You can give me all the advice that has nothing to do with reality you want. 8 months + some work flow r&d from me after wards is actually all it takes. That's the beauty of technology as it is today. You can program something like facebook in 8 months. Getting people to join it/know about it is the hard part. Even then good service online seems to grow by itself these days.
I don't want to lose my job to obsolescence. People who think the world doesn't evolve and change is ignorant to the point of delusional IMO. I read tech/design news & trends online and keep interested in the technology aspect of everything. It's what prompted me to supplement my design skills with more updated technology skills.
If I won the lottery tomorrow I would be run my own business and be a career student. Math, art, literature, medicine, etc.
Technical breakdown for Brisco
If I'm sending out a direct mail piece your logo can ONLY be printed in black (and some other print processes, too). When I say black I mean black, too. No shades of grey. So everything is flattened to one level. In the case of the FIFA Women's Under 17 logo everything is not clearly defined enough. The silhouettes of the ladies running would meld together. Any visual effects like gradients and whatnot would be unable to play in that realm.
Good logos only represent one or two attributes of the company. They're just too complicated overall. Also what is he doing with that budget logo? It looks like he just scrunched the 2003/2004 font horizontally in that space. Letting the typography and letterforms breath and display on their own is one of the quickest and most effective ways to make a good design great. Because he scrunched the font it automatically tells me he has little to no appreciation for typography. His AGAPE apple logo is probably technically the best because it can be printed in something fancy (like gold foil) and you still keep the shape. Creatively, though, it still sucks.
Also with so many effects it would be hard to reproduce those logos at large sizes. Like for South Koast Caribbean why didn't he draw out the islands? It would have been a simple trace job in illustrator to get those lines clean. He didn't. Either he doesn't know how (and just uses photoshop for everything) or he's lazy.
Context is everything.
So you're admitting you're a dumbass?
There is a world of difference between trying to excuse someone for racism and saying we should do more to help people obtain more job skills.

there is a difference between the time it takes to learn how to program and the time it takes to program something. It is like the difference between learning how to use a wood shop and tools and the time it takes to build a nice set of cabinets.
Are you posting while doing work? You're barely talking within the conversation that is happening.
I suggested you start to learn to code or practice before you start these classes and you're off on planet 78X, talking about God knows what.
Drew, I think your attachment with the logos is busted. I'm only seeing the hilarious illustrations.
Reality is more important. We can retrospect about context and society all we want. But it's not going to pay peoples rent.
It's the same thing. You're excusing someone for thinking the same way they did 50 years ago. But it's not 50 years ago. It's today. Blacks can sit at the front of the bus. They can run a bus company. And people don't (usually) work one job for all of their life forever and ever. Saying you were raised to believe something is not an excuse. Because the the world has changed since then and you should have, too.Quote:

The flower over the womans vag in the hair removal "logo" is my favorite.
I'm actually starting a blog next month about design. I'm going to be posting shit like this (with his contact info removed) for everyone to make fun of. Dastardly, I know. But every designer does it (also other stuff like new logos, designer problems, failed campaigns and other stuff -- not just solely making fun of crummy design work).
That blog better be the best designed motherfucker in the history of motherfuckers, or you're gonna get double-dicked.
Don't pull that on me. You as a businessman know better than anyone that context matters more than reality. Business, law, politics, are all context. You can say that abortion should be legal and give lots of facts about how it helps society, but at the end of the day, laws about it pass depending on how law makers perceive the situation. Not the reality of it.
You're just fucking with me now. For an engineer to have to tell a business owner this, is dumbfounding.
I'm not excusing it. I'm showing empathy. I'm saying, "well man, that does suck. I'm sorry to hear things changed on you and you got fucked. I sure hope things get better. It sure would be nice if <insert thing here> happened to help you out. Have you thought about taking out a student loan and going back? I hear the new Toyota Plant they built needs some programmers to help with new machines. Are you any good at math and programming>"
I'm not being like some of you and saying "HERP DURP, SHIT CHANGES MOTHER FUCKER"
Understanding a scenario and having sympathy for people does not translate into "excusing" anyone behavior.
Where's Biff to teach us all what's really going on.
I know you're trying to be clever...
but you do realize that empathy and sympathy are higher brain functions that developed as a result intelligence and our ability to think abstractly, right?
That is is because we are highly evolved as a thinking animal that we are able to have those feelings.
Then they are wrong and probably have no money. Your logo is a visual identifier of your business. If you come up with a logo like that you are telling the market you're an unprofessional mess.
It's very good so far. Simplicity is our friend in this case. Our logo is just a big X.
So silly. I'm not arguing with you anymore. I cannot stop and explain to you why passing a piece of legislation is different then someone actually having to collect physical money to pay their bills.
Did... did I really just see a black person advocating social Darwinism? Wow, just... wow. There's ignorance, and then there's that.
That second blog has some retarded people on it. One guy made a fan poster for Tron and a rave in Brazil used the image to promote their rave without his permission and he called it theft. They didn't compensate your fan art when they weren't selling it three thousand miles away in another country that doesn't even speak your language? Those monsters.
Some of these other ones are very interesting though and the whole thing reminds me of a time where a guy on the RvB forums took that Spartan Armor drawing of me and made it his avatar without even changing anything other than the name at the bottom. It was creepy.
I like the guy who is all "A SKATEBOARD COMPANY RIPPED OFF MY DESIGN"
This is what skateboard companies have ALWAYS done. Get over it.
Someone else bitched because a photographer in another country took a job where a model wanted a picture taken in the same style as another piece the original artist did. I didn't realize she held an international patent on photos where the model is wearing stupid white horns and veil.
It's also the point. It's meant to be that you recognize it as something else just with a Volcom logo or some shit. I take it these people just lose their shit over porn parodies.Quote:

It must be a really slow day at work. You're just rambling now. I don't even know why I read your shit and reply to it. You don't pay me even a fraction of the same respect.
We're not talking about someone collecting physical money to pay their bills. We're talking about it being easier for adults with heavy work loads or heavy responsibilities like children getting aid to go back to school. We're talking about how those people deserve some sympathy and help. Them getting aid is very related to legislation.
You're either being lazy or deliberately obtuse. I know you not knowing what we are talking about is not a result of my bad writing. Diff understood it when he made the comment about how china invest in its people.
Yeah there's stuff like people pictures being straight printed on shirts and sold. One guy had an artist paint a picture he took of his daughter and then try to sell it for $2600.
Then someone's like "I INVENTED WHITE HORNS FUCK"
The T-shirt shit where they just copy it and sell it on ebay is just stupid bootleg shit that will always happen.
The shit where like Urban Outfitters or someone takes a really clever graphic and turns it into a T-shirt with one thing slightly changed is the worst and happens all the goddamn time. So pathetic.
Or this. It will be a little different from all 3 but that same kind of mentality. I didn't even know your second link existed to be honest. I may just aggregate and RSS feed their content in to my feed too.
Look up what Steve Jobs said about artists. The quote is as true today as much as it was in the 1500's.
I like the discussion it brings to the table. This blog would be great if it actually helped people get involved and blow the whistle socially.
I don't know why, but I hate the font for "Brand New." Everything else works.
Edit: I don't know why, but I feel like the title being flanked seems too busy. Even when you make it flush left. Like, it'd work better if it was just all white up top, and you dropped the columns down.
Eh, I'm weird.
I like the font. It actually reminds me of an old branding iron font mixed with an educational one (i think it's the slabs). I also like how he is confident enough in the site just to write BRAND NEW and have the title stand alone. No unnecessary or ugly flourishes.
I agree with you that the overall layout is maybe claustrophobic. It's been about 2 years since I've been reading it (casually) and it has gotten a lot more content since then. One thing I like amongst all of it is he has a clearly defined hierarchy. When you read the blog you know where to focus despite the content. The dots really meld away when you focus on the content.
Yeah, but this is who you really are.
DOOP DOOP DOOP
DURP DURP DURP
Yoshi's a little tightly wound for me to imagine him as a black man. But then again, being a black man living in NC might account for the tightly-wound part.
Diff: It's fun to be deluded.
It's what the ego is all about.
I was drunk and for some reason, really angry and decided to write something really angry and see how ridiculous it looked in the morning. Apparently nobody else really paid attention, so good for me.
I really do think way too many people are more stupid than they have an excuse for and that has a profound effect on my life though. It probably has always been that way though.
I see what you did there.
