The first one was a good, if incredibly linear game.
Hopefully the sequel addresses that issue.
The first looked good and I almost picked it up, but it just kind of didn't happen.
Next time it goes up on steam for super cheap I'll give it a shot.
Metro 2033 was one that I had wanted to get around to, but fell into a timeframe when I had put over 200 hours into Fallout 3 and I just felt like it would be too similar so I skipped it. If I see it for cheap I'll probably grab it now that that time has passed, and maybe I can get in on this when it hits like I planned with the first.
Metro 2033 is like $10 on steam once a month, when it's not being given away free with some other THQ game. Surprised everyone on the planet doesn't have a copy by now. Good game, but not great. Worth playing for sure.
After I woke up from my seizure, I watched that again and thought it looked pretty good!

It's a lot better than I expected.
This is now up on Steam with a May 14 release date.
There's a bit of interesting (to me at least) controversy surrounding this one. It has a Ranger mode that is basically its 1999 mode, but it's either a preorder bonus or $5 as DLC. Since I haven't gotten around to the first one yet, I'll probably grab this and the DLC for 50% off or something, so I'm not too offended. But, as a general rule, would you rather see additional difficulties or content held back for DLC?
Since most difficulty stuff is imbalanced, I'd rather keep content in, even if it might be B-tier. Ranger Mode is probably 'miss a knife throw, have the entire level blare alarms and run all around until the level is over'. Hell, the regular mode will be if they didn't fix that issue. Biggest problem in the game by far.
Edge review: "4A Game’s world-building is the equal of BioShock: Infinite’s astonishing journey."
edit: Eurogamer's is up too.
Sites whose reviews you should never read probably will add more.
I wouldn't, because it's the same incremental practice of Project Ten Dollar, et al. It conditions people to be ok with these practices by doing it slowly over the course of time until it's the new normal, giving publishers ground to push even further for more money.
I may be a pessimist (and "may" might be generous), but I think that ship has sailed, and we lost. We're now at choice #2: which types of early DLC do we want, since we're not getting rid of it?
Look at how many people subscribe to Xbox Live, Call of Duty Elite, and Battlefield Premium. I was blown away by how much money EA has made from the latter, according to their last investors call. In my opinion, the value propositions in each of those is terrible, but clearly I'm either in the minority, or the minority is large enough to be wildly profitable. If people will pay $15/month or $50/year or whatever, I'd drop $5-10 DLC all over if I were a publisher too.
Love the first one despite it's shortcomings. Looking forward to this one in the same way.
In a weird way, it's why indie games are nice - they harken back to older gaming sensibilities of gameplay first, and tend to be small enough that they aren't trying to nickel and dime you.
In a weirder way, it's what makes Nintendo being so backwards in online so nice. They're just figuring out that you can ask for money for DLC, not pre-baking that nonsense into their games from the get-go. You may hate something like NSMB or Fire Emblem, but those games feel done, not like pieces were held back to feed people later.
I suppose the "real" answer is to quit new games. It's not like you have to be a part of the ecosystem if it's changed in such a way that you're only asking which bad-scenario is most preferred. If that's the future outlook for a hobby, then why bother with keeping current any longer?
[Warning: Painting with broad strokes approaching] I think indies just nickle and dime differently in a lot of cases. These lazy games that come out with 8 or 16-bit graphics may not be asking for money for DLC, but they're asking too much for the level of polish in a lot of cases.
I think that's a fair point. I just wish they'd be backwards with their small handful of series I care about: Star Fox, Pikmin, Yoshi, etc. instead of those I really don't.Quote:

I'm increasingly reaching this conclusion and actually following through. Xbox Live is bullshit, and I tired of supporting Microsoft in general, so I sold off all of my 360 stuff. I was tempted by the Star Wars system but was able to resist. Coincidentally, I have gotten and will get the same opportunity with the SWTOR expansion and EA's development deal with Disney. I'm not using Origin, and I'm not going to buy a console version and give them the same revenue while avoiding it. So I'll either buy used or skip those games all together.Quote:

I'm already pretty selective on DLC, so I don't think I need to change much there, and there are certainly examples other than Star Wars, but those are easy/obvious ones.
I bought this last night, so I will give this a go. Let's hope Medium can net me 60 FPS ;/
Nvidia just released the beta drivers 320.14 for Metro 2033: LL. I guess everyone with a GeForce card is downloading it now, because I'm getting a DL speed of 48KBps from their website. Ugh!!!!
I am never buying another game from Eastern Europe. I am tired of this buggy crap all the time. Game goes to a black screen at launch and that's it.
I have mine sitting on the table. Probably play some tomorrow. There's fucking to be done.
Now it runs in some bullshit 1920x400 resolution or something and changing it crashes the game.
I want my money back.
PC!
I just knew this was going to happen ;/
I will wait for a patch later this week. Then I get my money back. I am so angry partially because this was inevitable
Doing a little research, this seems like an issue for people that connect via HDMI to TVs. And a fix is coming.
This makes me want to buy a copy to support the developers.
That sucks to hear, I'm surprised they were able to actually do the full game under those conditions.
It's sad that such an obviously talented developer doesn't have the budget of other games to be able to get the job done, I hope they at some point have a shot at getting a better work place.
Well, now I feel like an asshole
But i bought it ;p so you guys suck
Amazon sent and charged me for 2 of these, but I'd be happy to pass it along to a TNLer for $50 shipped. It's the PS3 LE with the codes.
Or I'll trdae for another new game.
I am still waiting for a patch because the performance is too damn shitty. Lots of hitches for no reason ;(
Hmm, the real game seems to run great on High, a couple hitches but not bad.
This game is quite good, I recommend playing it on HARD though
I'm just glad you're done playing 3D Mark for 100 hours.
I had to doublecheck his profile the other day to make sure what I was seeing.
lol
The browser that shows up when you finish a test was up for days
I'm about 3/4 of the way through this and I'm pleasantly surprised how good it is! Sure it's linear but the atmosphere is great. I like it more than Bioshock infinite so far.
I finished this and besides a few hiccups here and there, I think this is a pretty great game. I never played through the first game and I didn't have a problem with the story. For a post apocalypse world, it felt much more alive than Infinite. There's a few slow story parts here and there but nothing to really drag the game down. The stealth actually works in this game if you want to play it that way.
If you were disappointed with Bioshock Infinite, give this game a chance!
I wonder if the PC version of the original is getting Last Light-ified.
Otherwise, no new news here
I'd say sneaking dev kits into Kiev is news worthy, but I agree that I'll continue to roll with the PC versions.
It is indeed coming to PC, as well as a dedicated Linux and Steam OS version. This is an even stickier situation that The Last of Us to me. There needs to be a significant discount for those that already own the game.
This is also coming to Xbox One. I played through Last Light but didn't get through the original Metro. I will now since it's getting tweaked with Last Lights control upgrades. Last Light is really great, you guys should really check this Redux out.
