I feel the exact same way. In fact, I'm so disgusted with MS's power grabbing that I'm tempted to cancel XBL and just move all of my interim (before PS4 or PC) gaming to PS3.

As much as I bitch about smart phones and internet spying, I don't really care of Kroger uses my membership card to track what I buy. I don't even care if they sell the information.
I don't consider food and toilet paper to be personal or private. People can see me buy the shit.
When I'm at home, playing a game or reading Wikipedia, I want to be left alone.
I'd care more about backwards compatibility than I would region-locking, but both situations prove that MS's focus is not on video games this generation. It's funny how their "set top box that does it all" does everything but play the library of Xbox games you already own! But of course it doesn't! Then they wouldn't be able to sell you digital versions of their Xbox 360 "classics" at $40 a pop when you can find them used for a tenth of the cost!
I did this a couple months ago, and I agonized over it far more than someone of normal mental health might. If I start a series on a particular console, I like to keep it that way for the rest of the generation. Makes the boxes line up nicely, etc.
After one Red Ring too many (and bad experiences with their "customer" "service") I bought BioShock Infinite on PS3. Nothing terrible happened.
At least Microsoft is setting it up so I won't have to make such a decision next time around. Thanks, guys!
I was kind of thinking the same thing but at this point I still have a lot of games backed up that I want to get to on Xbox and a good amount of multi-platform games play better on the 360 whether it be performance wise, controller, or just having an achievement system that I care for more than Trophies. With regards to renewing Gold, I'd have to weigh my options and analyze what multi-player games I actively play either competitively or on co-op such as fighters, racers, or FPS/3rd person cover shooters.
So far I've been playing mostly single player games mixed in with some multi or co-op with you guys so I'm probably not using it to it's full potential but I'm definitely going to try to use it for multi more before my Gold runs out. As for my PS3, aside from the exclusive Sony games (and some better versions of multi-platform games) I'm probably not going to actively game online on a PS3 as much with the exception being fellow co-workers but even then I'm having a pretty hard time trying to get them all to agree on a game we can all play on multi.
I will be using it for Netflix and whatever multi-games I happen to have when Gold runs out though so it's a bit of a stand by system for me in that regard.
I let my Gold run out about six months ago. I worried that I was missing out on something for maybe 3 days. I don't deny that the service is robust and no doubt costs money to maintain, but they need to throw me a bone to get me to pay again (like getting rid of loud as fuck ads that start the moment I move my cursor over them)
As much as I'd like to think that I am done with MS, I don't know what I am going to do when Halo 2 Anniversary or Halo 5 launches on Xbone. I'll probably get it.
This seems to be their intention. Launch with the bad news upfront, get people pissed, then announce a bunch of cool games at E3 and everyone forgets.
You discovered their master plan!
