Hey, I remember when consoles used to include two controllers but that didn't stick either. I can't argue that it's a feature you'd like to see in the new MS console, but arguing that choice is being taken away by a company that really has never offered much of any isn't really a great argument to be making. You do have a choice: buy the competition or buy a PC. Fuck MS.
its going to be delicious when Yoshi flipflops on this.
I agree with your verdict, but your second controller analogy isn't a good one. They didn't remove the ability to use a second controller; they just cut costs by not including it in the box. That's more a kin to MS' decision to not enable the original 360s for WiFi -- cheap but not choice limiting. Of course you have a choice to not support them at all, and I'll be making that one as well.
I fully agree with Yoshi on this. This is just Microsoft taking their chance to apply the Apple policy of "fuck you you'll use our products and like it". Want to use Itunes? Better have an Ipod. Yes there are other music services out there but who is numero uno? This isn't something that has been happening forever. Prior to the 360 you could buy a shitty Mad Katz controller and use that, or whatever. Yes every generation has introduced new controllers and shit that you had to buy but that's not the point, you always had a choice to buy a knockoff or the official product. With the 360 Microsoft took that choice out of your hands, literally, by demanding a fee from any manufacturer who wanted to make a controller compatible with the 360, and they are continuing that trend here. Suddenly no more third party controller manufacturers, or at least a whole lot less. You may look at that as a good thing, and honestly I'm not going to disagree too strongly there, most alternatives were garbage. It's just a worrying trend that Microsoft is engaged in.
If we were just talking business Yoshi would think this was an amazing achievement of capitalism.
A very key part of capitalism is demand. Hopefully there isn't any.
We both know that's wrong.
Microsoft is sure as hell hoping so. It's not like they're doing particularly well in many other business units.
