I don't think I've played any of my CD's on a console since... the PSX maybe? I definitely haven't at all on my PS3. And the only music I ever downloaded to it was the MvC2 music. I haven't tried Music Unlimited. I hear it has videogame music, though. Makes me wonder how good the selection is. I guess I could do that free 30-day trial I always see in the apps section of the Vita store.
I like plugging .mp4s onto a USB stick and watching them through the gaming consoles. I was hoping the next gen would have .mkv support, not no support at all. VLC on Ouya plays everything I throw at it but it's a pain in the ass.

I assume Sony looked at the average PS3's usage of MP3s & DNLA services and said "lol no one uses this shit why are we paying for these awful licenses" without realizing how they're things people kind of expect from these machines even if they don't use them that much.
It's a game console, not a multimedia set top box. They made the right call.
People don't spend hundreds of dollars for game consoles anymore (evidence: Wii U). They spend hundreds of dollars for set top boxes that play games, watch movies, stream, etc.
Seriously? Not paying $300-350 for 2006 technology with no games is evidence that people won't buy game consoles anymore? Give me a break.
Sony and MS talk about usage patterns occasionally. People use the systems for streaming Netflix at least as much as playing games, and Netflix is just one part of it.
The Wii U has Netflix.
edit: Serious question: Since the Xbox One won't support MP3 either, what legal commercial media, i.e. not home movies, are people going to be enjoying on it that won't be available on PS4?
I think HBO Go and ESPN are the big ones, right?
When I log in online most of my friends list is watching Netflix and other streaming services. Everyone bitches about the direction the One took but it's our own damn fault. Why wouldn't Microsoft focus less on games when that's what the people using the system are doing?Quote:
