The translator talking over Miyamoto is really fucking annoying. Free Zelda 4 swords to download. They're begging for applause.

Good to hear Nintendo finally acknowledge that the Wii was second rate for core gamers.
Ok, Super Mario 3D looks right. Do want.
I really wish Nintendo had this shit figured out back when they made Mario 64/Sunshine
Not dismissing. They just aren't needed. They add, but you can do fine without them. LIKE 3D YOU CHOWDA' HEAD.
Nice that you can't imagine a niche genre that doesn't exist now that depends on 3D for gameplay... just like music games are a niche genre that didn't exist for much of gaming history.Quote:
Why "music games aside"? They're not aside. It's an entire genre in itself. That's how core sound can be to an experience and why it's no where near a gimmick.
Their first party 3DS lineup looks pretty good considering it's all supposed to be out by the end of the year. Mario, Icarus, and then the SF64 and OoT remakes this summer.
Shut up, Cheebs, it's press conference time.
Boo to no GBA games for download on the 3DS.
Link's Awakening today for eShop. Also LOL I was right about Four Swords, but wrong system.
The Wii U
New system is named... Wii U?
wat
This is not the new system yet, I don't think. But it's the same functionality.
Not as retarded a use for a screen on the controller as I thought, honestly, but there needs to be cheap non-screen controllers available as well or I still hate it.
That's a joke...right?
It's like a combination of a handheld system that plays Wii games and a peripheral to the Wii? I don't understand this.
They showed off some kind of demo footage of a heretofore unannounced or non-existent Zelda game in that Wii U video.
Wii tablet. Theyre reacting to Apple in a big way. Its exciting and could be really really awesome, but how freaking much will this system be? Theyre not demonstrating the power of the system either. Simply looks like a will tablet.
I thought that was Twilight Princess
Smash Bros for 3DS and WiiU. Wow!
Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS sounds awesome.
I'm really confused. They keep calling it a new controller and not a new system, but clearly it has some new hardware in it? Is the system self contained in the controller or is it streamed from the console?
Not really sure either Frog. They keep announcing cross platform 3DS and Wii U games, which to me sounds like their power is relative. Maybe it's really just a peripheral to the Wii?
Nevermind, they're showing off DArksiders II etc
Darksiders 2, Arkham City, Aliens Colonial Marines, and AssCreed all going to end up on this thing.
This could be interesting.
edit: Metro Last Light and Ninja Gaiden 3 too. If this thing is more powerful than the 360/PS3 and the games take advantage of that, it will be worth checking out.
ALIENS!
If this thing is going to be a slightly more powerful 360 with some kooky multi-screen features, I think I'll have to get this.
gg nintendo
Oh shit. Battlefield 3.
Ok, so it is a new system, but it's so weird to me that they haven't even shown the system itself or really discussed specs. Odd way to present a system.
Looks like a less-powerful 360 with a gimmick controller.
It's probably just big blocky dev PC's, the controller is what they wanted to show off I guess.
I do like the idea of this, now there's no excuse at all for any game to have an obtrusive UI cluttering up the main screen whatsoever.
TVs don't just stream from the air. Nintendo clearly showed something hooked up to the TV in the pictures, and presumably that's where the media goes, because it's backward compatible and this thing has no place to put a disc.
All we saw are ports, footage of which is likely from other consoles. Impossible to judge its power at this point. I'd be surprised if it didn't at least have a slight edge over 360 in the way that Wii has a slight edge over Xbox 1 though.
I dunno, I don't hate the idea of a console I can lug around the house, and backward compatibility helps since my roommate took her Wii when she moved out and I don't have one of my own (have some games though). Pricing is going to be a major factor.
From rumors it seems to be more powerful than current consoles, but not truly next gen. This is a fully realized Dreamcast. The 3rd party support gives me hope for the system. EA going from publicly calling out the system to singing its praises at their press conference is a good sign for nintendo. Battlefield 3 in the palm of my hands? You got me, fuckers ;)
What I like is the support for legacy Wii and possibly gamecube controllers. It looks like they don't want/can't have more than one screen controller per system.
I have to see the price, but I still think Sony won the press war this round.
It's weird, man. I dunno.
I'm interested. The functionality they showed between the console and screen. From a basic "someone wants to play games and someone wants to watch TV now we both can!" way to complete integration with movies and internet through your screen. Could be an awesome foray in to the set top box market. I'd be more interested if it wasn't Nintendo doing it, though. Since their operating systems are such shit.
But if Nintendo succeeds maybe Asus, Acer or Microsoft will get in on it and it would be useful.
I honestly see this screen functionality as WAAAY more useful than the motion control implementations were.
I give the conference a B-. There weren't any embarrassing motion control demos, they showed 3DS games, new Zelda didn't look bad, and the Wii U (LAWL) tech is interesting. I agree that Sony won this year, but Nintendo was a close second. Next year, we'll have a better idea of the tech specs and, more importantly, price.
What would they show otherwise? It's a step up from the embarrassing "me too" versions of big ticket games the third parties release, like Baby's First Call of Duty, et al. It's a year or more away, all they can do really is show off what they're showing off now. It's more a symbol of their support to bring the same experience to the Ninty console that they've done on the others.
TEKKEN HYBRID JUST ANNOUNCED!!!
It's the 3D Bluray of the new movie, and it comes with TTT HD!!!
EDIT: Also, Wii U and 3Ds are getting Tekken games.
Ugh can Nintendo just go 3rd party game dev already? Who wants to play on a TV and another screen in their lap - how is that at all going to appeal to the casual wii crowd? Ok so they hinted Battlefield 3 might be on the system (or any other online game) - we all know nintendo's online service sucks and always will. MS and Sony are miles ahead of them in that area. Friend codes yo. 3rd party support, heh. They always say they have 3rd party support when they announce a console - and they never get it.
I don't think that a system with as much if not more power than current gen systems is gonna get late ports. 3rd partys like money too. Plus they have the added advantage of a powerful portable tablet to play thier games on. This could be really big, at least till the other hardware guys bring out their real next gen stuff, which looks to be 2013 or so. nintendo shouldn't have been so greedy withthe Wii and got this system out a year earlier.
The tablet isn't portable. It streams data from the console.
And the games they showed will almost all be out before this console, so they will be late ports.
It's pretty much a tablet controller, though. Stylus functionality and everything.
Yeah, that's not tablet like an iPad. It's just a controller with a screen that receives data from the base.
Tablet like a Cintiq, then.
Probably more analogous to the PSP/PS3 streaming relationship.
Which further asks: can the 3DS be used as a Wii Uii controller?
Pretty good e3. Finally starting to feel like my PS3 purchase was justified, but weirdly the most exciting thing I've seen so far has been the Ico & SOTC HD release date. Depressed about no new Last Guardian info. Twisted Metal and Rayman Origins :tu:.
Nintendo's 3DS stuff looks great and the Wii U seems like a pretty good idea. They also seem more serious than ever about generic 3rd party support and internet, but I think the time when people buy Nintendo consoles for those reasons has passed.
They also totally dumped the Wii at that conference.
Did capcom talk about fixing MvC3 netplay at all?
You can't have it both ways. As a business advocate, can you blame them for towing the line when it's worked for them every generation? There's a thousand things they could do that would solely benefit the consumer, ranging from the simple to the unsustainable. That they don't do specifically what you want isn't really an oversight on their part.
EDIT: This carries on to the less palatable decisions being made by the folk at Activision and their increasingly horrible pay and price structures. I don't like it but I can't blame them for milking the cows that clearly don't mind it.
You buy all their platforms. You choose to support them 10 times out of 10. What are you talking about.
I still don't own one, but there are enough new good-looking games for a demo reel. The Last Story, Xenoblade, Pandora's Tower, Zelda, Earth Seekers, and still no word on Dragon Quest X. The Wii's a lot more interesting to me than, say, an Xbox 360, but I wouldn't claim to be in sync with "the public."
Here's some info on the CPU http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/i...intendo-wii-u/ which really all it tells us is that its a Power7 based CPU (very good thing) and that it has "a lot" of embedded dram (which is also a very good thing). It should be a pretty good step up from PS360. Now we just need to get AMD to talk and confirm if its a modded RV700 in there. If it is you're looking at quite a step up from PS360 and probably where Sony and MS are going to be shooting for next gen as well.
I don't like the name at all. I think its fucking stupid. I'm also not sold on the controller. I really have no idea what to think of it until I get a chance to try it. I also think it was pretty fucking stupid how they showed it all. They said they wanted to focus on the controller after the conference, they should have still made it clear it was a new console using a new controller.
Power7+RV700, depending on where in the RV700 family, should be powerful enough to run anything on 360 or PS3 in 1080p at 60fps. It's not a trivial boost in power.
Dig up the n64 tech demos, imo.
"Project Reality"
Worked great for Sega, I mean their lineup is spectacular right?
Oh, and it worked great for Apple, when they kicked Steve Jobs out and started putting Mac OS on beige boxes.
Nintendo - Awesome
Super Nintendo - Awesome
N64 - Was this below the PS? I don't remember being blown away by a difference. The controller was maybe a bit worse, but I can't imagine playing GoldenEye or Zelda any other way. PS thumbsticks on the sides always felt unnatural. And it had native 4 player support, which was instant superiority in my book.
Gamecube - I don't see the issue with this versus the PS or Xbox
Wii - I guess you have them on that one? I liked playing some games with the remote though.
There have been some questionable decisions, but I think you guys are taking the "Nintendo is terrible with consoles" and blowing it a bit out of proportion.
The NES was underpowered compared to the SMS but overcame that with monopolistic business practices.
The SNES was plagued by slowdown out of the gate and had a bad (though not by today's standards) d-pad.
The N64 had no digital media and a horrid controller.
The GameCube was great except for the controller.
The Wii got nothing right.
Clearly.
Whether or not you like it is irrelevant. For better or worse, there's no game controller out there that isn't directly influenced by Nintendo's work. Not a single one.
Designing and selling hardware is one of Nintendo's core competencies. Not just the hardware, but making games that are great on that hardware. The idea that they would be better off as just another 3rd party in the crowd is just dumb. There's no reason for them to do that.
I've never seen any report say that it is a good idea for a company to throw out a wildly profitable and successful core specialty where the company has decades of institutional knowledge.
Did the SMS have Mario?Quote:

It's not about being a stockholder. Look at Sega now. Look at, as I said, Apple in the mid 1990's. If you like their games - well their hardware comes with it. Nintendo couldn't just throw out their entire hardware division and come out EXACTLY THE SAME on the software side. The two are linked. If you like Nintendo games you have to take Nintendo hardware.
Sega has been run by monkeys who fling feces to see what sticks for years and years. There is no comparison there. Sega made great games and couldn't market. Nintendo masterfully markets overrated games.
(Except you buy all of them)
Anybody found any Aliens show-floor info yet?
I hear there's a Wii U Aliens coming out now. Motion Tracker Controller.
Not Jokes.
It's Colonial Marines that is coming out for everything.
It wasn't moved there exclusively or anything, though. 3rd parties aren't committing any Wii U exclusives yet, they're just using it as another platform to dump the stuff they've already got.
It's largely gonna the same shit as when a bunch of Ubisoft and EA's GC games had exclusive GBA connectivity features. Who gives a shit.
