This. It's pretty much the reason I have been able to go back to the single player in any of the games. There really aren't many memorable levels, but I do have a ton of memorable gameplay experiences because of how the game plays in large scale encounters. I actually started Halo 3 campaign again last night and forgot how difficult it can get on Legendary, and how much of the story I had forgotten because there just really wasn't any reason to remember what happened. Playing the multiplayer also reminded me of how well tested and thought out the Halo 3 gameplay mechanics were, and really nailed home the point of how much Halo Reach's multiplayer was an abortion for so many reasons. It's too bad too, it had promise.
And Cap, lets be serious, being shitty at games isn't fun, ever, and you were really shitty at Halo.
BrandX: check PM's.
Yea, I REALLY enjoyed H3 MP... Reach's MP was just... ugh. The whole class-based loadout thing was a mess. It's been a while, but it just didn't feel right. Like imagine if Nintendo messed with Mario's jumping physics just a bit too much.
I've been enjoying the Forward Unto Dawn series quite a bit.
It took me an episode or two to get into it but the production is quite impressive for a live action show. It's also great to see Master Chief in live action but what's also cool is that the main character from this series (Lasky) might show up in the Halo 4 game which is a neat way of integrating the characters using different media.
As for Halo's story, while sure Halo 2 was a bump in the road given how that game was split up into Halo 2, ODST (a side story) and Halo 3 I can see why people would be unsatisfied with it. It also had sillier aspects like the Gravemind which yeah felt like little shop of horrors underwater.
But the entire canon is made up of a bigger tapestry such as the novels, comics, and even the advertisements. The main thrust of the story is obviously the games but the bigger universe is pretty rich and it all complements each other.
Having said that I do think that the Mass Effect games handle the invasion style of story a lot more dramatically and better than Halo given that everything you need to know is in the games and the presentation is more visually consistent. At this point though you either like the Halo universe/gameplay or you don't which is fine, it's a very popular game franchise but it's not for everyone.
I love the Halo universe. The entire mythology built around the series is absolutely fantastic, and like you said Will, it's not even remotely constrained to the stories told in the game. Those are in my opinion some of the more fragmented poorly told parts of the entire Halo cannon. They still entertain me because the gameplay that surrounds the story is fantastic, but are absolutely no a good indication of the full picture that Bungie and others have put together.

So I see a bunch of gay marketing crap? How is this the end? Big fucking deal. Halo 4 still looks awesome despite this stupid shit.
Rank never mattered in halo, it just unlocked cosmetic options. NBD IMO
