Sort of yes, sort of no. Not enough for me to not play it. Once you earn ranks you get more load outs. Also the sound in this game is phenomenal.

It lets me start with that semi-auto rifle if I want to and I like that.
As far as impressions, it's Halo. It looks a little different in a good way and there's different things to shoot at but it's pretty much still just Halo.
This game is amazing.
Just finished the campaign, and what a ride it was. Better than any campaign Bungie put together, felt most similar to Halo 1 in terms of flow and design, but absolutely blew Halo 1 away in terms of scale. And holy shit does it look gorgeous, the lighting and set pieces alone are some of the best on a console, not taking into account that 343 actually gave Halo some real character in terms of art design. Not to say it didn't have a specific feel before, Halo 4 just feels different in a really great way.
My main complaint is that the Prometheans aren't as interesting as enemies to fight as I would have liked. They are a one note enemy, but things do get really fun and interesting when it's a Coveneant/Promethean/Human battle.
Whenever I play Halo 1, I like to hunt down every enemy, see every bit of the map, and find different ways of playing the map (The Silent Cartographer has like five different ways to beat it depending on which shortcuts you take, for example).
Would Halo 4 be fun to play that way?
yes.
In one scenario you have to take out three shield generators. If you do it how its described what you are defending starts to move and enemies come out fast and furious(Heroic difficulty). The way I did it was use the mobile base as your weapon supply and I took out all of the enemies before I destroyed the generators.
Okay, now I'm actually hyped to play this
The main thing to me that changed in this campaign is you actually have to be cognizant of your ammo and how you use it. It feels like you go through ammo quicker and there are a bunch of new weapons that you are constantly shuffling what weapons you are using. It even got to the point where I would have zero ammo in both guns and would need to scavenge to grab any gun off the ground to continue fighting. It was an awesome dynamic that 4 has that none of the other Halo games ever had, whether it was inadvertent or not.
Sucks I won't be able to play more of this the next few days. Campaign seems great so far, playing two player coop with Iron on.
